Looks like the last push before it's gone. Newegg is out and has the replacement up.

Is this like the 7.2 little brother of the SC-1522-K?

Question -- it clearly states that it is 7.2 on the Costco and Pio sites. But the back panel shows 9 channel speaker terminals and a 9.2 pre-out array (both labeled with FH/FW) -- so what gives?

I believe the confusion comes from Pioneer stating that you can't produce sound simultaneously from the front height and the surround back speakers at the same time. The same goes for the front wide and surround back.
Hence only 7 channels can be driven at any one time with the front heights and surround back being like a timeshare for that channel pair.

If you look at the 1522, it has the same situation. It's a 9.2 system with speaker terminals on the back. It also says that you can't get sound simultaneously from the front heights and front wides.
You can have them both setup and connected, but if one channel is being used, the other is silent for that duration.

Thanks for the clarification. What if you are running an outboard amp. Let's say I had a 7 channel amp running the main 7 speakers. Can the 1222-k send a pre-out signal to the amp for the 7 primary channels -- and drive FW or FH from the onboard amp?

Alternatively -- can you use all 9.2 pre-outs and get a full 9.2 imaging (using outboard amps -- and the Pio as a pre/pro only)?

I'm not entirely sure. The manual sort of glosses over that specific topic, but the illustration shows all 9 channels being fed to external amps.

You may want to call/email Pioneer for a specific response if your purchase hinges on this. If this is the case, I suggest you buy and hold on to the unopened box and return it to Costco if their answer doesn't fit your needs.
I expect this to sell out just as fast as the 1522, if not faster since it's online and you had to find/drive to a store for the 1522..

Thanks again -- I am not quite in the market yet. I will probably wait till this time next year (when the XX23 series is on close out).

They sold out online, but they're still available in stores. One of my local stores still had a bunch (10-15) last night.

I'm struggling with my choice of new receiver and looking at this model. One of the more important issues for me is zone 2 operation.

Specifically, I want to be able to run music from an iphone via AirPlay in two different zone 2 locations. Looking at Yamaha's options, like the 675 and 775, Yamaha specifically states that the powered terminals and pre-outs can be used simultaneously which means I could use powered speakers on my outside deck and send the pre-outs to a bedroom where I could use some simple powered speakers.

Looking at Pioneer's receivers, I don't know if it also run both the powered terminals and pre-amps simultaneously or if the pre-amps would be disabled when the powered terminals are in use.

Does anyone know?

I thought it might not matter with the 1222 because it's got zone 3 pre-outs, but, according to the manual, zone 3 doesn't handle network inputs, only traditional analog audio inputs.

The Costco in Chino Hills has at least 10 on Tuesday.
The Costco in City of Industry does not have any decent AV Receivers.

Ask your local Costo if there's a way to ship the item from a different warehouse to you. Maybe there is something that they might be able to do, toget it done for you.

I tried, no dice. They won't ship between clubs.

I think I read somewhere in AVS (the 1522-K thread???) where someone said they went to their Costco customer service and the CS called the other Costo and ordered it directly for them over the phone to be shipped to the guy directly (not from one club to the other).
