Pioneer SC-1523-K

I saw the Gold Box deal yesterday (1323 for $599 -- now it's back to $999). But the 1523 is still $849, which seems like a good deal. Not at "Costco deal" levels yet ... but still.

There are some open box models in the Amazon Warehouse for $782 if you want to go that route. I am holding out for Costco Pt 2 -- but I thought I would pass this along .

Regards ...

I have been looking at this all day and chewing my nails trying to decide if I need this much AVR. What a great unit this looks to be. I think I am going in... do I need the square trade 3-year warranty for another $65.89? smile.gif

I don't see that 2-year warranty option at checkout. How do you get it?

Well, been meaning to join prime anyway so took the 30 day free trial. Still not seeing anything but 3-year warranty offer from square trade. Still, nice free shipping option - should get here Wednesday. Guess I'll take my chances and skip the square trade warranty. I don't usually go for those things anyway. Thanks! smile.gif

Funny thing is that Pioneers very own website lists the 1523 at $1599.99. Hopefully that is a serious typo on Neweggs part, otherwise that is a ripoff. And then what is with the $150 2-yr service plan vs. Amazon's $32.99 2-yr plan? The Amazon deal sounds pretty good, even if it is not quite 50% off Pioneer's MSRP.

This is very tempting, but I am not sure if I want to go back to Pioneer or not. More power to all of you taking advantage of this deal. I look forward to reading your impressions of this receiver.

In the process of building my HT, I'm done with main speakers and now just starting to obsess over AVR's.  Got a lot to learn, still.  What's the difference between the SC and Elite?

Very little spec wise, price wise MSRP is 1¢ comparing my SC-75 to the equivalent SC-1523-K.
Elite series are to be sold at Brick and Mortar stores and have 2 year warranties compared the the SC one year. You can get them from online sales but the warranty will not be valid due to the unauthorized dealer thing.
The display color on the Elites are Amber, the SC's are Blue.

Thanks, 2therock

Two things in follow up to the above post.

1. I believe Amazon is an authorized Pioneer SC (consumer line) dealer (but is not an Elite line dealer).

2. There is much debate, wailing and gnashing of teeth about the validity of warranties generally if the product is not purchased from the authorized sales channel. In my opinion and experience -- warranties are generally always read and interpreted strictly, but in favor of the consumer. Unless Pioneer's warranty documentation (which should be available for download) specifically states that the warranty is void or excluded if the product is not purchased from an authorized retailer - then I believe the warranty is valid regardless of channel of purchase. You still need a proof of purchase and anything else required by the manufacturer. BTW -- the same goes for tranferability, unless it states clearly it is not transferable -- it should be transferable.

My $.02.

I got mine last Tuesday and hook it up to my 2-channel setup.  I think it's a good deal.  The streaming functionality and IOS app is awesome.  My current A/V setup is using an integrated digital amp (lyngdorf), squeezbox touch, roku, apple tv, chromecast, and a laptop with USB to spdif converter.  All hdmi connection goes straight to a Samsung TV.  I haven't hooked up everything to the SC-1523 yet but I tested with the laptop and streaming from a tablet.  It's so convenient being able to control the volume, input, and music streaming service from a tablet.  It's like magic :)

Does this AVR deserve its own official owner's thread or it's under the SC-75/77/79 thread?

The speaker cable you are using now (RCA) is CCA (copper clad aluminum) wire, while the HTD is OFC wire and one of the best deals around.

The closest thing that I've found is the "Official Pioneer SC-75/77/79 Thread". (The SC-1523-K is almost identical to the Elite SC-75).

the sc 75 and the 1523k are the same... difference is warranty on the elite is 3 years extra... lol   all your paying for is a warranty. lol   not to mention if u have to buy the wireless adapter for 109 bucks... as other brands have it built in...

as for the hdmi 2.0 and or the hdmi 2.2  they are coming out in two months mid 2014.... then we will see the nay sayers cry when the price drops again.  a goo goo.

although, im struggling to wait... two months or when i put this up against the denon 4311 ci.... and the sc 79  , i just struggle with deciding.

79 is too much , and doesnt have the goodies it will in two months... same with the denon ci 4311.... as for the 1523k ,  good prices can be found... but ci4311 close very close... for price. man... what a struggle.  both at 900 .

but which is better?

FYI, Amazon just dropped the price of the 1523 to $799. Looks like a pretty good deal.

I pulled the plug on one on Friday at $999 - It is supposed to arrive tomorrow. Fortunately, Amazon is good about matching their own prices and will refund the difference to me.

AWESOME DEAL! I was trying to hold off until Pioneer released specs on the upcoming SC-85, but they've been tight lipped on details and this deal is just too good to pass up. I just ordered my new SC-1523-K on Amazon for $799 (with the 1 year original factory warranty). I'm guessing the new SC-85 will have a MSRP that's twice what I paid. Can't wait to swap out my old Elite VSX-72 TXV. smile.gifbiggrin.gifsmile.gif

Sorry for jumping in, but just want to clarify that the Pioneer SC-1523-K comes with a one (1) year manufacturer warranty and the Elite SC-75 comes with a two (2) year manufacturer warranty. I got tired of waiting and finally pulled the trigger on an SC-1523-K. I'm sure I'll be one of the nay sayers whining when clearance prices plummet in the fall, but I'll still be happy with my decision. With respect to the wireless adapter, other forum members have had good results with aftermarket wireless adapters (with similar specs) on eBay for $15-20 with free shipping. I intend to go that route and will report out later on performance.
