Thanks!

What a fortunate thing... was just browsing this board on a whim and came across this deal. Ordered the Darbee immediately. FYI, as of 8/14/14 11:30PM EST, there's only one refurb 103 Darbee left.

The following items differentiate the BDP-103D from the original BDP-103...

~the Silicon Image VRS ClearView video processor.
(the VRS chip allows for a slightly better picture presentation do to some ever so slight undefeatable DNR
in the QDEO chip found in the BDP-103.)

~the Darbee Visual Presence video processor.

~the ability to send DSD over HDMI on the HDMI-1 output.
(this was only possible on the HDMI-2 output of the BDP-105)

The 103D can also output 4K/50 and 4K/60 in YCbCr 4:2:0 data format on HDMI 1 output. (Feature added in recent firmware takes advantage of newer HDMI output hardware in the 103D and 105D.)

^ Ok, a full updated list of 103/105 vs 103D/105D...

How is the BDP-105D/103D different from the BDP-105/103?... the following list explains it.

The BDP-105D/103D subtracts:

~the Marvell Qdeo video processor

...and adds:

~the Silicon Image VRS ClearView video processor.
(the VRS chip allows for a slightly better picture presentation do to some ever so slight undefeatable DNR in the QDEO chip.)

~the Darbee Visual Presence video processor.

~the ability to send DSD over HDMI on the HDMI-1 output.
(this was only possible on the HDMI-2 output of the BDP-103 and BDP-105)

~the ability to output 4K/50 and 4K/60 in YCbCr 4:2:0 data format on the HDMI-1 output.

~(BDP-105D only) updated USB DAC interface to support DSD64 and DSD128
(the 105D can not play media files in DSD 128 -- i.e., on a directly attached USB hard drive or via the house network.
the new capability is limited to the Asynchronous USB Input only!)

~(BDP-105D only) the USB DAC can also allow acceptance of stereo LPCM at rates up to 384KHz 24-bit.
Rates above 192KHz are only available for output on the Analog outputs. (192KHz limit on the 105.)

...and replaces:

~the remote with be a slightly new version with a Darbee button.
(otherwise the remote is identical to the BDP-105/103)

All other aspects and functions of the two models are identical.

^ You mean, in a store? OPPO Digital in the US sells its players direct from its Internet web store:

http://www.oppodigital.com/products.asp

You can also order them on-line at Amazon.com

There are only a few US stores that are dealers. One is the stand-alone Magnolia stores -- associated with Best Buy, but not the Magnolia stores found inside of Best Buy stores.

Definitely take the advice about calling Oppo for a refurb. I just did, even though nothing was listed on the web page. "Oh sure, I can sell you one. A refurb BDP-103 with warranty is $415 plus $18 for shipping cross country."

That's a better deal than I saw this weekend on eBay for a used player from a private party. That guy wanted $400 + $40 shipping, and you don't get a warranty!

On this Thanksgiving week, I thank the posters here who let us know about the unadvertised deals!

Are opo players really going to offer that much of an increase in picture quality? I currently have the samsumg bd7500 and the 65"hu9000 tv- I have been eyeing the oppo for awhile just could never find a credible enough source to justify getting it. Also what are opinions on the darbee edition?

I pulled the trigger on the 103 refurb and even at $415.00 that is a lot of money for a BR player. So after 20 minutes of stewing about it I called and cancelled the order and then ordered the Darbee version. I figured if I was going to spend that much money on a new player why not get it with the Darbee feature. The Darbee add-on box is $299.00 if I wanted to add it down the road. It is scheduled for Saturday delivery.... my wife is going to **** when sees the bill. The 103d is replacing a Sony BR that was $100 when new.
