Nice deal

no doubt because they are phasing this unit out for the Atymos enabled units

I wonder if they deals on the yamaha and Marantz pre/pros as well

no factory warranty on that unit on Ebay though.......not an authorized dealer

Think of it as buying used, except you are getting a brand new unit.

yes...but with no warranty
new or not
Do you really want an Onkyo product for $1000 with absolutely no warranty?

My Onkyo 5508 has been in the shop since I bought it...the repair would have cost me a few hundred

Obsolete for the new generation of Dolby Atmos fans. ...Like me.

* By the way, I'm using one of those right now in my main rig.

true...but a good price
and if you are not planning on doing Atmos right now....this is well priced "bridge"

If I didnt already have a Onkyo 5508.....which is a sonic twin to this unit...I would consider this unit at this price

The other part is will the new Atmos enabled unit be able to decode the new DTS format as well?

Or will it be like it was years ago...Dolby Digital arrives...the people buy units and the next year DTS arrives and its time to buy again

Well, for one, new Onkyo/Integra SSPs (with Dolby Atmos) have also AccuEQ.
Integra DHC-80.6 and Onkyo PR-SC5530.

If you want Audyssey MultEQ XT32 with MultEQ Pro, and Dolby Atmos, and DTS-UHD, you have to wait for the second generation of Marantz SSPs.

If the DHC-80.3 was selling for $999 right now (brand new with full warranty), I still would wait for that Marantz AV7703 SSP (sometimes in 2016). But that's only me.

will the 7703 have XT32?
though they slotted the lower end Marantz SSP with Multi EQ XT

I know the 8802 will have those features...but street price will have to be close (or at) $3K for that
Street price on the 8801 is anywhere from $2100-2300

I would still have some fear about reliability of the Onkyo/Integra products....though it seems they are steeping up to the plate...finally

The Onkyo PR-SC5509 is the Integra DHC-80.3's equivalent.

Fo sur.

The 7702 has Audyssey MultEQ XT32, so the 7703 will surely have as well

Street price for the 7702: approx $1,700*
- For the 8802: approx $ 3,400*

* @ the beginning.

The Onkyo 5509 (and 5510?) don't have Dolby Atmos, neither the Integra DHC-80.3

And all the new Onkyo/Integra SSPs (5511? and DHC80.6?) have no Audyssey @ all, but the new (inferior) AccuEQ system. ....And they do have Dolby Atmos.

<> The DHC-80.3 is still a solid unit, and good for its owner who is not in the rush to get Dolby Atmos.
...Perhaps for another two years or so.

Atmos is gonna make it hard to get rid of older models. Great deals to be had if you don't care about Atmos. Unfortunately, I do care.

.
no sonic differences....Onkyo 5508/5509 or Integra 80.3

The Onkyo 5509 looks better than the 5508

but I am not buying a new unit based on looks

and none of these are the best SSP's I have ever heard...though they are a good value
I paid $1600 for my 5508 3.5 years ago

I think if you are buying mid range Asian products

I agree with you

High end will not be jumping all over this

you do realize with the Asian products there will something else next year to make this years products obsolete as well?...I can think of a couple of specs that are not firm yet and wont be in time for these first Atmos equipped units

The Asian products are on a 12-18 month cycle of obsolescence

hence the reason the value falls so quickly on them

mean while that 4 year old( design update) Anthem D2V preo/pro...its still $9K like it was in 2010

those type of products dont seem to sell for 60-70% off retail 12-18 months after they are introduced

unfortunately..

You're talking Canadian audio gear here, not Asian stuff.
