Tempting for the price but i checked some of the reviews and you tube video, seems to have some noise issues as well as playback limitations . Too bad I love samsung but so reluctant to get this unit. Who knows, i'm still looking at it

I have 4 of them

No playback limitations or noise issues

You sometimes have to look a the number of reviews vs the ones that have negative things to say
I think Samsung has thousands and thousands of these players and I dare say you are looking a very small percentage who have negative issues

Oh good. Do you know if this player can have the 'Plex' app?

Is there a list of apps available for samsung TV and blu ray players?

I dont know about the plex app...you might be able to find that in the reviews you were reading
As for apps
samsung( and Sony) typically have the largest range of apps among any of the players

Much better than Panasonic or LG

No problems for me. No noise what format. Restriction are yo worried about .it does not do HD AUDIO, it is not Region free for bluray or DVD.

Unless these limitations are deal breakers. I would jump on it

first time, I heard that this doesn't do HD Audio. Maybe your definition of HD might be different than industry stds

Received mine today

Looked like an open box unit that had the original box and all the accessories to me

I connected it and updated it and it works like a charm

great player for the money and yes it has plex and supports DTS MA for streaming. It will not support Atmos or True HD streaming...disk only.

I have one and have never had any issue with it. To be honest the only real drawback is the remote. It is awful. It's tiny and has very few buttons, specifically it does NOT have a fast forward and rewind button just a chapter skip forward and back. TO fast forward or rewind you have to hold the button down. That being said I also have a Logitech Harmony remote so I don't use the factory remote anymore lol.

I bought the harmony hub and have the iphone app which is great. I'm trying to get bestbuy to match the $104 since i put it in my cart and when I check out it went to $134.99.

I use it simply as a transport for discs and for the apps

There is no way I would pay significantly more for a device that does both well

Besides that ...there will be something new in 2 years or less anyway

Upscaling is probably the biggest one you will hear
build quality is probably the next one

For me
I could not justify the difference in price
As I said before
All I need is a disc transport that has ample smart capability
The samsung does well with both and at $105 ( shipped)..I dont think it an be touched

Objectively speaking, what would the best UHD bluray player out there right now that is solid and has a lot of usable options and a good price?

I would say the samsung in this thread

No DV support...but neither does the largest Tv manufacturer...

Two HDMI outputs, 3D support and an apps suite that sets the standard

for $105 I could not be more satisfied

I also own the Samsung 8500, and it is a great player for it's current price.

the 103D does not support native 4K playback

So..I ask the questions
As fast as technology changes...even this Samsung is "dated" at this point with all the newest technology

Does it make sense to spend the extra for for the upscaling and build quality when any player will be dated in less than 2 years?
If you are only looking for a transport and smart apps...does it make sense to spend a significant extra..3x-4x?

These players..IMO..have become about the most disposable items in the A/V world

turnne1,
I never said that the 103D supports 4K, I was commenting on the quality of the machine for the $. I also said that the Samsung 8500 is worth the $, considering the current price for it. It does so many things, and is quite an easy player, pretty much plug and play. I have it and enjoy it. I agree that if you are looking for just a transport with some apps, the Samsung 8500 is a no brainer. I bought the 103D for its far many more advantage/capabilities that it has. I also came across the Samsung 8500 for around $150, and that was a no brainer as well.

I never said you said the Oppo was a 4K player

But that was part of my question
In an ever changing landscape of technology with products being "obsolete" in 12 months
I want to know your opinion..ie...no right or wrong answer

I really want to know ..in your opinion...why the Oppo is worth the extra 3x-4x more money?
I say this because..in my opinion...these players have become somewhat disposable

turnne1,
The 103D was something that I was really focused on and researched for a while. I like the apps, I can do TIDAL, the 103D has the Darbee, has a great DAC, I can play my SACD's and DVDA as well. I like the 2D to 3D with a push of a button, and it is build like a tank. I really can't find any flaws with it, as it does so much for what I need. Throws a great picture for my 40ES. So for me the $500 was a long term investment, that I knew I would make the most of.
That is just my thought on the subject, as I am not an SME by any means, but I do like the OPPO 103D.
