Do you think that this is as good as the price will get? I would think that once the receiver is available on the open market that the competition may lower the price. No?

I won't need a AVR until the fall. However, I could bite if needed on this price. Please share your experience with AVR pricing.

What's J&R's policy on pre-orders, do you just leave a deposit or do they put a hold on your card for the whole amount?

Robert at **************** has told me that he would be happy to accept pre-orders on Onkyo's SR 875 and NR 905 receivers at J and R's discount prices with free shipping.

They are to be included in Onkyo's first allocations so the fastest possible delivery is very likely from his company.

They are also a factory direct authorized Onkyo dealers so nationwide sales are 100% OK and carry Onkyo's 2 year warranty as well as their option for an additional 2 year , which costs $65. They are not permitted to have sale prices on their web site, but Nationwide phoned in orders are permitted.

Since Robert is a sponsor for AVS, I would prefer to use him plus you save the shipping cost.

well J & R DOES try to charge your card in advance. I got a call from the credit department saying my payment did not go through ( I put it on a card with no limit on purpose)

So it appears they are trying to charge ahead of time. Guess I will call Robert.

I have purchased many items from Robert & he will not charge until they are shipped. I ordered over a week ago a Panny Blu-Ray 10A, Onkyo SR875 & a XA2, there has been no posting of any transactions on my Visa since I ordered.

As far as I can tell, JandR does NOT charge your charge your card until it ships. At least they haven't charged my card and it states that "Your Credit Card is only charged for shipped items" on their Order Status page.

Well that was the SHORTEST promo ever. I talked to them the day before you posted about the free shipping and was quoted $40. When I contacted them right after you posted I was also told it was still $40....I guess the free shipping promo was for a total of 1 hour or something *rolls eyes*

Perhaps they were trying to perform a pre-authorization on the card like hotels do when you first check in.

Nope, has nothing to do with it as the package was being sent to a NY address (can't ship Onkyo products to Canada).

I believe they do a check on billing address and phone number and if something is off there they have to confirm further. I currently have a 4308 on pre-order and have pre-ordered items in the past from J&R and have not been billed until the item has shipped.

That sounds like a pre-authorization on the credit card by J&R. I think they block out that amount on your credit card without actually charging it. When I went there I was told they would do that.
