Thanks for the tip, just ordered two of these as an early Christmas present to me!

FYI tivo is also offering the lifetime service once again, price is $399.

check the tivo website for the lifetime offer. you will not be able to combine the rebate and the lifetime service (or so I was told by a Tivo rep)

The lifetime service has restrictions that seem to be like the previous transfer of lifetime service. i.e. current subscriber with qualifying DVRs and activating a new box, not a transfer. And I think it applies the the unit being bought.

Yep, that is what I was told. Basically you have to already be a customer then you can get lifetime on the new unit......BUT then you don't get the rebate. Of course you can call two customer service reps at Tivo and be told three different stories...
