Today's Show

Inspired by an article of the same title written by Benj Edwards posted at TechHive.com, the HT Guys decided to do a little look back on the digital format that changed the music industry, and set the stage for other formats that would change the movie industry as well.  We knew back when it came out that the CD was going to be huge, we probably couldn’t have guessed just how huge.

Have a great weekend!

The first CD Player I ever saw was not a disc machine, but a reel-to-reel data recorder, back in early 1979.
The principles of digital audio recording were developed by Dr. Thomas Stockham, with much of the work taking place in this building in Salt Lake City (shown in a recent photo).

Dr. Stockham's office was the one with the large main-floor window on the left. The company was Soundstream.
I heard that one of the major record companies, in honor of him being called "The Father of the CD", continued to send him a copy of every CD they produced, until the end of his life in January of 2004.

Ken English, Sr. Engineer, KSL-TV.
