Fred Kitson, executive VP and CTO of DTS, explains the technology behind Headphone:X, which simulates the sound of a surround-speaker system in conventional headphones, including the algorithms that model the acoustics of a room, the effect of a human head and hearing system, and the characteristics of different types of headphones and even specific models. He also discusses applications in which a multichannel signal is encoded in real time or pre-encoded, different use-case scenarios such as gaming, sports, and movies, the possibility of tracking head movement using facial recognition in various portable and gaming devices, the current status of MDA (Multi-Dimensional Audio, an object-oriented audio standard), answers to chat-room questions, and more.

Glad to hear there was some sort of confirmation that there would be multiple levels of customization - correcting for the specific headphone, the room modeling and the HRTF. It remains to be seen exactly how they manage that in a receiver implementation....but my interest is definitely piqued. I've got my fingers crossed that they make good on the promise.

Around 11:20 into the interview, he refers to the 'Man of Steel' music composer as Hanz Zimmerman (instead of Hans Zimmer). Apparently Mr. Kitson has current events on his mind.
