In celebration of HTG's 200th episode, three of the show's most popular guests—3D maven Gene Dolgoff, technologist Robert Heron, and headphone guru Tyll Hertsens—talk about the progress made in AV technology over the last four years and what they expect in the next four years. Robert revels in increasing quality at lower cost, Tyll talks about planar-magnetic headphones and brain studies that show how increasing audio quality impacts the viewing experience much more than increasing the video quality, and Gene discusses why 3D failed in the marketplace, augmented reality, and holography. Plus answers to chat-room questions and more.
Great Podcast as always, and Congrats on the big 200! I believe I've heard every episode available through i-tunes in the last 3 years or so. It used to be my favorite thing about Mondays. It's now my favorite thing about Thursdays.
I had a comment regarding the discussion about 3D audio, how headphones with motion detection are going to be used in interesting ways, using HTF to simulate a full home theater array.
That's nice, I guess, but I don't WANT to hear a simulation of a HT through my headphones. I want to be transported to the scene in the screen. Let the Directors encode the movies not to make a convincing surround mix, but rather to put me into that movie. Compared to that experience, a HT setup is like trying to do surgery with oven mitts.
Now to the episode lol...
all of this information and what really caught my attention was Gene started talking about 3d in the air, I instantly thought of Batman Forever lol with 3d coming out of the TV like he said lol
please tell me you were joking and that you dont actually love those things? I mean do you really watch the cup? because it is the single most annoying thing ever when the players cant even hear themselves and you cant hear the action because of those damn horns... I really really hope the ban on them actually happens... ~_~
Actually, I do love them, and I love the sound of thousands of them playing all at once. Of course, that might have something to do with the fact that I'm a brass player and I couldn't care less about soccer.
Well I can understand and respect that, of course everything has its time and place so on its own sure but when it comes to soccer yeah they need to go lol...
also if I may add, I hope one of these days I will be able to meet you and some of the other members now that I am living in LA, I have learned so much from you and the members here and I feel it would be a great honor to meet in person.

I'm a brass player also and I always wanted to big my spare trombone to a event. I guess that would be the closest I could get.
Since you can pitch with it, I wonder if any teams have a simple tone pattern for their country?
