LG 65C7 OLED TV Calibration

Calibrator David Abrams and I talk about the LG 65C7 OLED TV, which he calibrated and I evaluated. Topics include the features of this TV, the pre-calibration measurements of grayscale and colorimetry, the SDR calibration results, the effect of the color-management system (CMS), which actually works well in the 2017 LG OLEDs, the HDR calibration results, looking at the colorimetry with and without taking tone-mapping luminance errors into account, Dolby Vision calibration, real-world content, answers to chat-room questions, and more.

Scott,

Did you and Scott Herron go back and redo Leo LaPort's OLED, if so what were the results of the redo?

Dave Abrams is really a nice and great guy. He's always calibrated by Pioneer Plasma TV from the very beginning in Southern California. Now that I moved to the east coast, I'll miss his calibration services and friendship greatly!

Video performance

Hi Scott,
I enjoy listening to your HTG and TG podcasts on my MP3 players. After listening to episode 341, Inside Sony Technology several times, I decided to replace my Toshiba backlit LED TV with a 55 inch Sony X930E for it's ability to enhance HDTV - and I am very happy with that decision. The enhancement to picture quality is amazing. I was concerned about black because it's edge lit, but this tv produces good black level.

With regard to your OLED TV reviews. I can't imagine anyone choosing an OLED TV based on them since you spent most of the time on procedures and nothing on video processing performance. Seems to me that video processing should be a major factor in evaluating tv performance - especially for HDTV videos. I expect to continue using my three Sony HDTV recorders to view my OTA and cable programs until they no longer function, and will wait for 4k cable Tv.
