Bob, I think you are in the wrong thread..... This has nothing to do with calibrating a Pioneer Plasma!

I know. I agree. Like I said, I didn't expect to see something like this here, and I didn't put it here! Since I did see it here on this thread, and have a remedy, I thought I should at least answer it here. If I am wrong and the display in question is flat panel and still exhibiting these kinds of sympoms, then I gotta see it, because with fixed pixel I figure those symptoms as described are absolutely impossible to have happen.

We can all go back to talking about flat panels now, sorry for the interruption...

Hello,

Any ISF Calibrator visiting Delaware soon? I tried the list for Delaware posted by "turbe" but I am unable to get a response from the calibrator listed for Delaware after many attempts. I was hoping to have a 111FD calibrated sometime in April.

TIA

I called Greta and left a message.

Thanks!
Btw, will purchase ControlCAL soon. I like the interface. All my notebooks have serial ports and I use them frequently for programming communication receivers (Uniden and GRE Scanners) for Public Safety.

Warm Regards,

Yes it is! There is a new scanner coming, the BCD396XT, which there is only one software program to work with it. You may want to try your hand at it. The serial protocols are listed on Uniden's website.

Yea, I know about that program.. I was going to compete with it but just don't have time to continue that project..

I'm already using their command codes with my unfinished app...

Shawn, I installed ControlCal and used it for the first time recently, and found that as expected the settings get frozen in each of the 2 apps, Day and Night. Yet the brightness/black level often needs to be changed for different content, and sometimes certain channels overdo their color intensity and the color level has to come down for that particular offering. ABC is especially prone to that, as is CSI: Miami. The Tonight Show always needs the br to come down a bit, usually 5 clicks on my Mit CRT display, to make Leno's desk go into the background during his monologue, where it should be.

If CC has frozen everything, none of that can be changed based on the content of that particular offering.

Typically in standard calibrations, the User centerpoint/midpoints become the calibration standard that the owner can always come back to and use most of the time, but changeable if necessary.

How do I retain the control of these things for my owner? I can replicate all the ISF settings I came up with after testing in the User Manual section, and do it that way, but if I do that and CAN do that, what do I need CC for?

What am I missing here?

Hi Bob,

Yes, the ISFccc memories are locked (ControlCAL is required of course) and this is by design from the Imaging Science Foundation itself. Many calibrators calibrate the ISFccc Memories and Pure (Pure is global) which of course allows the owner to make adjustments. However, my contact with Pioneer Owners and other Calibrators is that very few want to mess with adjusting per channel since individual shows can be different. I think Michael Chen said it best in regards to television channels:

Some owners use HDMI switches and usual multiple Inputs on the Pioneers which can provide even more ISFccc memories.

Many owners get ControlCAL themselves even after a Professional Calibration (some Pro's recommend it).

Pure is global and affects all Inputs. The ISFccc memories can be configured differently from another ISFccc memory including the Pure Cinema Setting and Colorspace. Some clone their isf Night settings to isf Day except they have the Pure Cinema Control configured differently. Others pump up the light output using isf Day vs isf Night. Some use one ISFccc memory for D65 and another ISFccc memory for another Colortemp (or 1 set for HD and another for SD, common in Europe).

The ISFccc Interface has other benefits:

* Greater picture depth because of the above

The ISFccc Interface can do everything the Standard AV Selections can do but the reverse is not true.

Hey guys. I dont have a pioneer but I do have a Sony KDS 50e3000 DLP. Would a calibrator just cablibrate/fix my geometry? Im fairly happy with everything else other than some of geometry. Do they just do certain things or do you have to pay for a full blown calibration?

The Sony is an LCD, not DLP and there is very little that can be done with geometry.

Sorry. I meant to say KDF 50e3000. Thats to bad that there isnt much you can do. I seem to get some type of hour glass effect. Can the chassis warp my image? If so, can some pieces be replaced?

Generally if the image dips at the top, it is usually from the mirror sagging or pressure in the back of the cabinet.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Here are two outstanding people.

David Abrams of Avical (David Abrams at AVS)
http://www.avical.com/

David works out of Los Angeles and does frequent tours to Northern California.

W. Jeff Meier of AccuCal (UMR at AVS)
http://www.accucal.org/

Jeff also does audio calibration. He comes to California two or three times a year. He will be here in May.

Check out their web sites. You can also use the link at the bottom of my post to read customer reports about their work.

I have done several calibrations in El Dorado Hills in the last year or 2, it's just out past Sac from me, a pleasant drive. Contact me directly please, not by pm.
