what are some things I can/should look for when finding/choosing an IFS guy. Im buying the 58" Panasonic 800U in about 1-2 weeks and I want to get it calibrated professionally but I am not sure how to choose the right person. Or is it just a hit or miss if you don't know anyone in you area?

Also, I plan on upgrading my receiver as well shortly. Should I wait until I get my new receiver or will that not matter..

Talk to the prospective calibration techs and discuss your system, your room and its characteristics, and your knowledge level and priorities. If he/she does not ask lots of questions about these matters or does not answer your questions in the context of your needs, you have the wrong person. The best calibrators will educate you and take the entire system and its application into consideration as part of the process. Also, anyone who wants to calibrate it before it has at least a couple of hundred hours on it should be avoided, as they do not understand how PDPs work with respect to phosphor hardening and aging.

Yes, calibration is important...every user should be calibrated.

Need electronics repair? A great place to start looking for a shop in your area: http://www.tvrepairpros.com/

It possibly could have some interaction, as witnessed by some of the new receivers entering the market with ISF calibration controls. Best to have your system as nailed down as possible prior to calibrating, but not absolutely critical.

Search the calibrator post in the sticky for 'Oregon' here in this very forum or go to ISFforum. This gets you just the active calibrators locally or touring that calibrate TV's in the area rather than everyone on the ISF list.
