Hi,

just got my i1 Display Pro unit and I'm looking for recommendations regarding which calibration software would be best to use with the i1 Display Pro unit...

I know it comes with x-rite's own software, which seems to be decent, but I remember back in the day folks recommended using Lacie's Blue Eye Pro software with the i1 Display 2...

I have 4 monitors I need to calibrate, none of them are dual screen setups...

So what is nowadays the best software to use with the i1 Display Pro ?

Btw, some one mentioned that the retail version of the i1 Display Pro is hardware locked to just work with the x-rite software ? Can anybody confirm this ?

Thanks.

Yes, it works with Calman.
I can really recommende that software.

And yes again the retail is locked and the only software it works with is x-rite and Calman.

He's looking to calibrate a monitor, likely using ICC profiles, not a TV or projector in this case. CalMan has a CalPC add-on that works with the i1DisplayPro. You can also try DispCalGUI, which uses the ArgyllCMS backend, and is free. Most other solutions (ColorEyesPro, for example) don't support the i1Display Pro yet, or aren't planning to at this point it seems. Outside of the free XRite software, those are your best bet right now.

They support OEM DisplayPros, not sure about the retail meter.

@all: thank you for your replies.

Have a few follow up questions:

(1.) How do I know I have a retail or OEM i1Display Pro ?

I purchased mine off eBay (new) and it came including the i1Profiler software, so after your responses I thought I purchased the retail version... But when I opened basicColor 5 it recognized the meter and I was able to make a profile...

Still a little bit unsure, it would not make any sense considering ordering CalMan (or CalPC) as I don't know if my meter is supported... their test versions do not support any meter recognition...

Any advise regarding that matter ? How can I check whether my i1Display Pro is RETAIL or OEM ?

(2.) Any links for Monitor calibration tutorials using any of the software mentioned in this thread ?

I did run the i1Profiler calibration and the basicColor calibration. Both made a difference on my notebook screen. Maybe a good tutorial can help squeeze a little bit more out... Any links or recommendations would be appreciated !

Thanks.

If you can use x-rite software you have the retail meter.

We support both the retail and the OEM meters.

CalMAN with the CalPC add-on is great because you can calibrate both PC monitors and Home Theater equipment.

sotti,

thank you for the clarification regarding Spectracal's software. I will definitely look into it, as I have to re-calibrate 2 TV's as well.

Coming back to your other statement, are you implying that the OEM i1Display Pro meter would not work with X-Rite's own software bundle (i1Profiler) ?

Thanks again.

That's correct. I have an OEM one and the Xrite software will not run.
