How about adding Contrast (Ratio) patterns (on/off and ANSI, like on the AVS disc)?

For saturation sweeps (no matter stimulus) always 100& white followed by the individual colors

regarding the grey scale I can add one (seperate video stream) for 11pt (including 0%) however not sure what the point is, 0% is not gonna give you anythng anyway.

Correct regarding the dynamic range, correct I will ammend

Regarding the contrast ratio patterns, yes defenetly I will add it to the list.

Cheers

Actually, 0% is useful for calculating gamma with black level compensation enabled. It's optional for power law gamma, but essential for BT.1886 gamma. (The color reading for 0% is useless, but the Y value is not.)

I have added a poll for what file format you would prefer for a HTPC version. Please vote so we can change from mp4 to another format if required

sorry anta, but either mp4 or mkv works for me, so I voted mp4 so they don't have to do anymore work. but again, i'm fine with either mp4 or mkv.

it's very easy (albeit time consuming) to change the container from mp4 to mkv... you just need to re-mux it with mkvmerge/mkvtoolnix. just open it in mkvmerge and click start muxing.

Chapter skips in the mp4 currently linked on post 1 don't work in mpc. I'm putting together an mkv set that should work better

The refrence pictures on the disk how do we use them? are they absolutely necessary? I like that you are going to redo the layout. I am waiting on my order of chromapure and display 3 pro so having a disk that has the patterns in the order that Chromapure will want them is great, will greatly speed up the process.

Questions.

I can see the interest in checking all the additional colors' calibration values, but how are these other coordinates to be used if the primary and secondary points are as accurate as possible?

and

What is the reason for duplicating the workflows for things like HCFR, CalMAN, and Chromapure when these already exist on the AVS Rec709 disc?

@Hunghro

the refference pictures are not "absolutely necessary" more like a nice thing to have, I personaly like them to evaluate, its great if everything look great on charts, but even better if the refference pictures looks great. - try to look at the pictures before and after calibratiion, hopefully that will show how good a job you have done. smile.gif

@kjgarrison
the disk has its relevance in several ways.
1: as you mention it contain patterns that dont exist on the avshd709 disk/other disks, these patterns are now as time has passed become more important, as its the only (free) way to meassure how your display preform with different amplitude/saturation levels
2: the pattern sizes is smaller then on other disks. bigger windows "CAN" cause ABL on some plasma screens.
3: the reason for splitting them in to sections and not leave it as it is, is simply to make it a better/faster/easier experience to use the disk, on different software platforms.

yes origanilly it was intented as a suplement to HCFR/the spreadsheet/Chromapure's ACM module. but since calman 5 also now can meassure different saturation levels and luminance levels. I think its a good step.

the color checker, is not as much used to calibrate your display with but to evaluate your display. it no good all your pri/sec are 100% spot on at 100/100 if everything inside the gamut is off. it leavs you with to options: try to calibrate with anoter saturation/luminance level or live with the fact that your tv preform theoreticaly brilliant but practical (where things really matter) not so much, it might not solve the problem to calibrate to other sat/amp levels, but its worth a shot. its also a very quick way to determine how overall the display preform.

Hey Visca wil there eventually be a how to guide on using the patterns ? Perhaps this might not be necessary at all , just a thought. I have a 51PND6500 zoyd suggested to use 75%A/75%S to calibrate the gamut. I would like to know how do I go about calibrating the gamut? I am waiting on my d3pro meter from tom and chromapure bundle and would like to be prepared never done a color calibration before just a greyscale and gamma using my old display 2 lt.

hmm it might be a good idea for HCFR but both calman and chromapure is self explanative.

in chromapure you simply select that you want to use 75% saturation REC709 and it will tell you to turn up or down you RGB's or hue saturation or luminance, all depending what controls you have on your tv.
similar in calman5

The pattern I would put up to use with Chroma Pure is just a RGB of 75 %A /75% S but not the sweeps that go from 0 % to 75 % that is just for checking the gamut at different points is this a correct assumption?

First I want to thank you for your great job.

Unfortunately the Blu Ray version b4.3.13. doesn´t work. I burnt it, but on two different players playback failed.
