The AVSHD disk has about 14% windows - correct? Is that too large or ok yet?

You can try that I prefer smaller windows myself, either the GCD disk or Mascoir's disc work great.

So why has ABL been abandoned - do the 2013 Panasonic sets handle it better for medium sized windows such that it's not an issue?

For what it's worth, I found on my ZT60 that the gamma behaved much closer to the target gamma "pre-calibration" using the AVSHD standard windows. The AVSHD APL patterns still gave me runaway responses when looking at 70-100IRE.

I am guessing that's the ultimate judge for which pattern is appropriate?

I wouldn't say APL patterns have been abandoned there has always been alot of controversy over apl vs standard windows. I still think the smaller window sizes work better and for my ST60 I found the standard windows looker better to me subjectively. Chad is doing my VT60 in about 10 days and he will probably use APL windows.

So if using ABL windows, do you also set the target 100IRE white level with the ABL pattern? Also, does it matter which window size is used if the idea is to keep the effect consistent?

Assuming you mean APL patterns, ABL is Auto Brightness Limiter. Yes I use the APL pattern to set contrast, window size of 5 to 6.5% is what I have used.

chunon,

On your 60s, do you find much of a difference using 10-10.8% standard windows?

I don't on my F8500 but sure do with my VT50 .... a year earlier model.

Samsung 64F8500, Panasonic 65VT50, Oppo 95, Tivo Roamio for OTA, Dish VIP722, Marantz AV8801 preamp, Rotel Amps, Atlantic Tech 8200 speakers, Seaton Submersive HP, Calman 5, Chromapure, Accupel DVG-5000, i1Display3pro, i1pro2, eecolor colorbox.

10% windows as opposed to 5% windows ? Yes there is a difference due to abl, if your set doesn't behave that way it is a definite plus

It still has an effect even if using large or small ABL patterns? Considering my larger AVS disk standard windows appear relatively stable across all stim levels but the large ABL patterns do not, I'm a bit confused which I should use to calibrate too...

Assuming you don't have a pattern generator ? If not then your choices are limited fir patterns I would go with the 10% apl patterns off the gcd disc I feel the avs patterns are too large

Unfortunately I do not have a pattern generator. Where can I find the "god" disc? wink.gif
