I am planning to switch to an htpc, so I have been testing mainly tmt 5 and trying madvr although i dont like lack of menu support and such. But madvr apparently does the best chroma upconversion, its basically one of the main things the author designed it for, i still am not sure if this would have a noticeable effect on actual bluray viewing, i have not noticed a difference on my projector, only when i view a test pattern...but anyway i have some results i am wondering someone could help me understand.

Usually when I watch blurays im more concerned and can detect crushed blacks, dnr, EE, ect.. not chroma upsampling so my experience here is very small.

Im using spears and munsil disc with the chroma zone plate. On both I am feeding them rgb 4:4:4 from my video card.

On my monitor


Madvr-correct color intensity, very even, little moire, its basically perfect

TMT-less color intensity on the outside started looking more grey, more moire


On my projector

Madvr-better color intensity then tmt still, but not as good as on my monitor plus MORE moire

TMT-Still not great color intensity on the outside of the pattern, but undetectable or very small amount of moire!


I dont really understand this, or why the difference if i am feeding them both RGB 4:4:4 (confirmed by my scaler).

Furthermore why is their more moire with madvr on my projector, but almost none using tmt on my projector. Yet the exact opposite result on my monitor.
