Quick summary:

I finally decided to replace the DVE calibration disc I got in '97 included in the purchase of my first DVD player. I got the Disney WOW BR version. I ran the calibrations on my Sony Bravia to see how it works, preparing for the arrival of my new LG display (47CS570) in a few days. I could not adjust the brightness or contrast using the disc. The parts that were supposed to be invisible when correctly adjusted would never appear, no matter how much I turned it up. What I did was turn it down and then back up until the 1% star just barely showed up. It was the same with the brightness and contrast patterns. I thought maybe it was the TV.

Then I got my LG and it does the same thing.

Could it be a setting on my blue ray player, the Pioneer BDP-51FD? I tried the settings for .. white adjustment.. I think? The options were things like 4.4.1 and 4.4.4. and some others. I didn't notice a difference on any of them except for one (don't remember which one), which made it worse.

Any ideas would be appreciated.
