Just use the movie mode on the TV. It's the best you can do with out using test discs. (Which BTW, can be essentially free.) Follow the instructions ... should take 15 minutes or so. Now, if you can't be bothered to do that though ... well ...

so my best bet is to calibrate my tv should i do it or have someone else do it? (I've never done it before) what calibration disc to use? should i do i now or wait i just got the tv and set it up. also anything i need to do for breaking my tv in?

Your TV might be also be much further improved with grayscale color balancing but it takes a meter and software to do that.
