I'm from Australia and in the same boat as you. There is yet some hope, taken from Oppo's support page:
Quote:
International orders are usually shipped using USPS Express Mail International with insurance. Shipping cost varies depending on the destination country/region. We recommend using our shipping estimator for shipping cost to your country/region. International customers are responsible for any customs and/or other fees that may be levied on merchandise once it arrives in your home country/region. Customs charges can vary widely from one country/region to another. If you are unsure, you should contact the customs agency in your country/region to find out if the items you are purchasing will be subjected to customs or other fees. Add item(s) to your shopping cart and select your country/region to see the estimated shipping cost.

Adding the disk to your cart and then trying to get a shipping estimate doesn't work but I've sent them an email asking if they can ship a disk to me in Australia. If I get a green light from Oppo, I'm sure they would be happy to send you a copy too (if you ask via email).

I'll post back in here when I get an answer back.

Hayden.

Got an email back today from Oppo: quote from email:
Quote:
Please fill out and fax back the attached form so we may process your order for the Spears and Munsil Blu-ray.

Best Regards

They attached a credit card authorization PDF that you can fill out, print, and fax back to them. A little bit of a pity really, I don't have access to a fax machine so I guess I'll be waiting for Amazon or local dealers to get their hands on the disk (apparently it's on it way to my country).

Some international dealers should have inventory in a couple of weeks. The discs arrived Friday afternoon from the replicator. As dealers put in orders, inventory will be shipped to them. We will add their names to our dealer section as soon as they start selling them.

Amazon will also be able to service international orders once they have received, and ingested, the discs.

Which kind of sounds like they haven't gotten it yet but the note in the email from Oppo reads...

Note that USPS tracking may indicate that only electronic information was received and imply that your package has not been shipped. This is a limitation of the USPS tracking system since USPS does not scan packages when they are picked up from our warehouse. The date indicated above is the date that your package was picked up by USPS.

The Amazon link is still sold by OPPO at the moment. The same link will be sold by Amazon as soon as they get the discs in the warehouse.

Ended up getting my detail to Oppo for shipping to Aus. They have processed my order and will be shipped out tonight via USPS First Class Mail International.

Now to play the waiting game. Hopefully this way will be quicker than waiting for Amazon to get the stock sorted, and then waiting for their shipping (their stuff takes about 3 weeks to get to here...).

If anyone needs international shipping and wants the disk ordered now, it was a breeze, their customer service was very helpful, friendly and quick to reply to emails, I'm glad you chose them Stacey Spears.

The PS3 appears to be altering gamma slightly. On a couple OPPOs and some Panasonic players, my display is reported as having a 2.4 gamma. I have also measured and confirmed. Through the PS3 it reports 2.3 gamma. I don't know if it is the dither on the output of the PS3 or something else going on.

The price of the 1st edition is still holding its value of $200+ on Amazon. I figure it would have gone down with the 2nd edition out.

You should use the player you plan to watch with since you are calibrating the player to the display. You might measure both and see what happens.

Mine is a 1st gen 60 GB PS3 running the latest SW.

Agreed, but if it reads a little different than the "norm", that would carry over to broadcast TV as well. I've been using the ps3 to try out some streaming, but when I calibrate with the disc it might be time to swap back to the 500.

I make a gamma run with the 500 and the disc unused in the ps3 to compare in a couple of days.

I'd like to know more about this since I use a 2nd gen (slim) 160 GB PS3 as my BD player and for Netflix Streaming. I wonder if the display and video settings in the PS3 have anything to do with this.

I always use S&M to check my LUT calibrations.

I think you also have a Oppo that you will be using for the new S&M disc.
