Are you interested in Profiling to one on your Display(s)? If so, why not hire a Professional with one of those Spectros) to come in and do a calibration and at the same time allow you to Profile?

Keep in mind you may need the proper licensing for your calibration software to do so (depending on what you have).

David Abrams (LA Local), Jeff Meier (tour there) and Helmut Kaczmarek (I believe) have Photo Research spectros available.

I have seen a very few in the past (few years ago) but they were expensive..

I bet Hiring a Pro with one of those Spectros will be cheaper than renting one....

generally in the $400-$500 range for a display calibration, perhaps contact one of them above and see if they will come out and help you Profile vs (calibration)?? just a thought!

Both, I would think. I can't imagine sending out a 10-20k meter to a stranger.

well, companies focusing on equipment rental for broadcast and/or film industry do this all of time and in fact there is equipment available valued well over the high end Photo Research or Minolta Spectros.... but there can be qualifications to do so

I would ask a Calibrator with one but also take advantage of the Calibrator's experience as well wink.gif

If your definition of high-end includes the i1 Pro spectro, check this out: http://www.hippotechsolutions.com/?page_id=15

Compared to an i1 D2, for an example, the i1 Pro is high-end.smile.gif

he was specific, he listed the models, however I agree that results will be acceptable profiling with the i1Pro

I in fact was the first to rent i1Pro for our needs I believe and did so for years (but only to my users).. Hippo was one of my customers for this originally and I embraced him offering this as well, for a long time I couldn't keep up with the demand..

I sold all four of my rental i1Pros last summer.. dealing with deposits with recent changes to card policies just became something I no longer wanted to deal with..

You can get used i1Pros or even a new ColorMunki Spectro now for decent pricing.. Profiling to a ColorMunki Spectro will give similar results as profiling to a i1Pro...

Why not send your probes to Spectracal and have them create tables for you against a CS2000, arguably one of the best. If your probes can't load tables, they could atleast provide XYZ offsets for the display technologies.

Although for the value I'd also argue for purchasing an i1pro.(D or version 2 which is an E model)

unless they have all his specific display models, that is no substitute for profiling a colorimeter to a Spectro on his actual display models.

this has been checked in the real world by Michael Chen (and myself and others) - you just don't know!

I think MichaelTLV says it best:
Quote:
The open question is then ... without a device to double check its performance, exactly how does one know when it is functioning correctly?

If you only have this device, then, you need to know the answer to this, or you can stick your head back into the sand. If I am a potential client to a calibrator that only pulls out a tri-stim device to calibrate my TV, I'd want to know the answer to this
.

and..

we have an i1Pro, we need to do better than 10nm...

we have 5 different display TYPES, external profiling is not an option: your display drifts and your colorimeter drifts over time

obviously rental price will include insurance for these expensive devices...

I asked Jeff if he was interested:

That is what they are doing when they hire me.

Sure thing. I will be out there in February. I was just there two days ago.

Jeff Meier will help you profile to his PR-670, he will be in the area in Feb and was just there two days ago...

I'm still waiting for replies from the other two

Just an update.

Photo Research has a PR-655 rental program.. costly though...

$2037.75 for 7 days
$2309.45 for 14 days
$2717.00 for 30 days
.. more options available

You can rent from 7 - 360 days

Payment must be in advance for rental periods less than 31 days. Rent to Own. 25% of the rental fee can be credited towards a new instrument if purchased within 30 days of the return of the rental equipment.

I am considering offering rental of one of the JETI reference spectros, probably the 1201, though the 1211 is a possibility (the only difference is speed and low-light sensitivity--the accuracy is the same).

The fee would be MUCH lower than what is quoted above for the PR 655. I am thinking $500 a week, with a sliding scale for longer rentals.

Is there any demand for this?
