Hi,

I want to buy one of the calman5 sw and i1 oem bundles. I am not sure which one I need. None of my hardware is suitable for auto calibration so I am thinking the basic version but if c5 control offer more than just auto adjustments I am willing to pay the extra $100

here is my equipment;

Display:
Pioneer Pro-141FD 9th gen 60" plasma monitor

Video Processor:
Crystalio II VPS-3300 (has test patterns but not listed in sprectral)
Algolith Mosquito HDMI

Source:

Sony Bd-p790 BD player(region A)
Integra dhs-8.8 (toshiba xa2 clone hd-dvd)
Samsung bdp-5300 (region B)
Pioneer dv-420 (multi-region dvd player)
Jvc hm-dh40000u (d-vhs, d-theater)
Pioneer CLD-97( laserdisc player)
Tivo premier X4(has thx patterns)

I have calibration discs(tapes, Lds etc..) for each.

Do I need more than Calman 5 basic?

Basic should fit your needs. The difference in price of the two bundles is $150.00 You can always upgrade to Control later for the same amount of money.

thank you for the reply

do you think I can use crystalio II as my pattern generator? It has many patterns built into it.

Yes the Crystalio II does have built in patterns but unfortunately development stopped on the Crystalio II before they could add support for controlling those patterns. We did ask and it was added to the features requests and we are told it was going to make it in but in the end it never did. So worse case is you just have to manually bring up the patterns as needed.

I'm also looking at getting a meter and CalMAN software bundle. I also don't quite understand what the differences are in the software versions. I'm just wanting to calibrate my Samsung 65" ES8000. What does the "basic" CalMAN software do that the "Tutorial" version doesn't? Also, is the C3 meter any good?

Hi again,

there has been changes to my equipment list and my budget is much larger now. I am going to order calibration gear and software next week. If anyone can direct me into some useful links to research or help me pick gear and software, I would really appreciate it.

Display:
Pioneer Elite Pro-141FD 9th gen plasma monitor

Video Processing:
Crystalio II VPS-3800 Pro (has built in patterns)
Algolith Mosquito HDMI

Source:
Oppo Bdp-105
Integra Dhs-8.8 (Toshiba Hd-Xa2 clone Hd-dvd player)
JVC Hm-Dh5u (D-Vhs deck with Hdmi)
Mcintosh MLD-7020 (Pioneer CLD-97 clone laserdisc player)
TiVo Premier Xl4 (has built in patterns)

I have calibration discs,tapes,Lds.

My budget is $1000-1200.

I am looking at Calman 5 enthusiast +C6 for $1000 then Calman 5 enthusiast + i1pro 2 enhanced is $1100.
then I read a lot of people use i1pro($250) in addition to one of above. can someone explain the benefit in this?

thank you in advance

If you were getting a i1Pro 2 Spectro, you wouldn't need a i1Pro Spectro.... If you can find a used i1Pro Rev D. (they go for $250-$450), you could also add a i1D3 Colorimeter (OEM or Retail) and get CalMAN Enthusiast.....

I always recommend a i1Pro Spectrometer, even a used i1Pro Rev D ($250-$450) is great.

Why a Spectro, see why here:
