I agree.
We've always been focused on 3D LUT calibration, for which LightSpace hopefully has proven to be the best at.
But we have always been asked to also offer Manual Calibrators better tools than exist in the market already...

The changes we have made so far for Manual Calibration are a first step in adding such tools, with more to come.

But, it is early days for this thread of our development, so there will be limitations at the moment (although with the open approach of LightSpace such 'limitations' will always have available workarounds).

Hopefully, the accuracy of the final calibration results, and the flexibility of LightSpace will make the workarounds viable in the short-term

Steve

Hello Steve, all.

For those interested by a workaround solution, I have written a little app under windows 8.1 which allows to fill in R, G, B fields almost automatically according to triplets choosen through a combo list. I use it during my calibration session and it is very helpful (only greyscale by 5% step is available for the moment but I can add RGBCYM with 5% step for video level and more if needed).

See the screenshot.

For the moment, I just need to select the patch I want on the combo list then to double click on R field and to press 'r' to the keyboard (the R value of the triplet selected is automatically filled in) then to double click on G field and to press 'g' to the keyboard (the G value of the triplet selected is automatically filled in) then to double click on B field and to press 'b' to the keyboard (the B value of the triplet selected is automatically filled in).

Key 'h' allows to automatically enter 255.
Key 'l' allows to automatically enter 0.

I could share it. I just need a few days to make some improvements.

So, as you can see, it is just a keyboard hook which allows to simulate keyboard entry on the calibration interface window of LightSpace CMS.

Let me know if someone is interested to test it.

Steve : I have an idea to avoid pressing 'r', 'g' or 'b' key but it would be necessary to adapt the focus management of the calibration interface. I can email you my query if you want.

I can only think of one important thing that would be awesome to have and thats an "Invert GUI colors" option.

Here is an example .......... LoL

If only it was that simple - we would have done it ages ago...
Unfortunately, it is not that simple at all...

My eeColor is blinking (on channel 2) but is not responding to the remote. I downloaded the Truvue app and have it hooked up via HDMI to the laptop. Also tried the RS232 connection, using USB adapter. Oh, boy.

Before I start uploading any LUTs to the ee, what is the idea behind presets 1 - 6? Use them all if I want, but leave preset 1 alone, as this is the Unity mode or LS default setting? I'm I correct on this?

I turn the box off when profiling and then populate them all.

Current selection:

1. HD BT.1886 typical night mode
2. HD BT.1886 dark night mode (tweaked gamma and offset)
3. HD 2.2 gamma night mode
4. HD BT.1886 day mode
5. HD 2.2 day mode
6. SD BT.1886 night mode

night mode peak white = 120 cd/m^2
day mode peak white = 320 cd/m^2

We supply a selection of replacement LUTs to upload before starting ti use the eeColor with LightSpace.
And slot-1isa bypass LUT.
We prefer to profile with all hardware in the image patch - just in case.#

eeColor turned on and set to slot 1 "Unity" for all Characterization Profiles. Verification Profiles obviously need the Slot with the 3DLUT to be evaluated active.

My Slots: 1-6
1 - "Unity"
2 - BT.1886
3 - Gamma 2.20 "BT.709"
4 - Gamma 2.30
5 - Gamma 2.35 "EBU Tec.3320"
6 - Gamma 2.40

no, you can disable the LUT with the remote (eeC off). This is the same as a unity LUT.

I get it, profile using preset 1. Save new LUT to one of the other presets. Leave preset one in UNITY/bypass mode.

So this means I keep the Unity box checked off in the UPLOAD option under the File menu?

The idea is that having eeColor with Slot 1 "Unity" on and active all the video test data signal has to pass through the processing hardware and therefore incorporate any distortion these chips may introduce. This is done because after calibration all the source material such as Games and Blu-Ray will be passing through this hardware (with its possible minor distortions) also.

What makes the LUT an Active LUT? I think the cube shown here is the actual display profile and not the corrected cube.

For starters that looks pretty good display character profile.

If you have just used the "Convert ColorSpace" tool then your LUT will be available in the drop-down list if LS and the LUT is still open.

Or just export the LUT in eeColor65.txt and load that exported eeColor LUT in LS "Active LUT" using the "Browse" button and then run the Verification Profile.

Now after Verify Profile is complete Export the Report from this and view results.

Lastly use "Convert ColorSpace" tool once again now to generate the resulting 1DLUT & Cube to view it also.

Only use "LUT Manipulation>VideoScale--PassBlack" on the exported eeColor65.txt when you are finally going to upload the 3DLUT to eeColor to Verify it while being loaded in the eeColor box.
