I've been trying to connect my 2009 white macbook to my samsung-hp-r4252 42 inch through VGA using the miniDVI to VGA converter. Most of the time I get these two resolutions (see picture) -- which are stretched wide on my tv. However, at seemingly random times I get a whole range of differ resolutions high as around 1900x1200. i've tried a different cable, turning the tv on before the macbook/ vise-versa and everything else i could think of, but can't get the wider list of resolutions to appear. One thing to note is that usually, the external display is shown as Samsung PDP, but when i get a wider list of resolutions it's shown as VGA display. Am I just using a faulty cable or is the problem deeper then that?

Any help would really be appreciated
