In thinking about buying a P55VT50 I started searching for calibrators and came across this guy on craigslist. That said, his prices seem too low ($150 for 2 devices, $225 for 3) and the website is pretty old and outdated. What do you guys think, and if not him, do you have any recommendations? I think I saw that one calibrator is touring Austin around May 18th but that's a bit too far out.

You get what you pay for. Just like there are good mechanics there are also bad ones. I think Chad B was going to tour Texas sometime in April. You may want to contact him.

I came...I saw...I bought an HDTV

I recommend that you expect to pay more and pay close attention to turbe's post. biggrin.gif

You can use the link in the signature area at the bottom of my post to check out the references for the professionals listed by turbe. Look in the second post for flat panel displays. I wouldn't worry about the specific modes, but more about the body of work.

I've used Jeff Meier (UMR at AVS) several times and like his work a lot. He does audio too. I've also attended one of D-Nice's calibrations and he is outstanding too.

Chad Billheimer and, Doug Weil have very good owner reviews.

I'm not familiar with Sonny DiFranco name, but he may travel under a different screen name here at AVS. Chad Bilheimer uses "Chad B" here.

Thanks for all of the recommendations! Anyone have D-Nice or Chad B's tour schedule? The only schedules I found were for Doug (in Austin May 15-18) and Jeff (in Austin in October).

And I'll give Sonny a shout.

I was just told about this thread and thought I should reply. I am actually the one behind austinhdexperts. I've been an avs forum member for over 10 years now, and I've been performing display calibrations nearly as long. I've also built complete theaters (for myself and others), as well as do just about anything a/v related. This isn't my full-time job, it's just a passion of mine. I'm mainly a software developer.

I only charge $150 for calibrating flat panel TVs ($200 for projectors), because frankly I don't think anyone should pay more than that. I am very particular about calibrating displays, despite what I charge. I spend as much time as it takes to get great results, which usually means a good 2 hours total, whether it's a $200 32" TV or a $10,000 projector. I've also fixed many horrible calibrations that have been performed by Best Buy.

Feel free to ask me for references or come to my house and see my own calibrated displays. I have a 50" LG plasma in my living room that has an outstanding picture (I love LG's calibration controls), and I also have a Marquee 8500 8" CRT projector in my theater that looks awesome.

And yes, the site is quite outdated. One of these days I'll give it a refresh. smile.gif

The i1D2 Meter will not cut it in 2013 by itself and not for 2008/2009 plasmas onward

I've very successfully calibrated many 2008+ plasmas and current LCD/LED TVs. I just did a Panasonic TC-P65VT60 that turned out outstanding, both by the graphs and by the image it produces.
