That did the trick for Windows to Windows. Had to set the firewall rules to All instead of Private for some reason. No luck with Mac, but I'm on the right track. Thanks for your help!

Mac fixed as well. For some reason the firewall rule for Python wasn't created yet. Thanks again!

Using Windows 10 pro, color management extended, NVIDIA Quadro video card, DispcalGUI and madTPG as pattern generator.
Any thoughts on why madTPG window on my TV goes dormant when starting calibration and or profile from DispcalGUI. What happens is the dormant TPG screen stays the same showing the headers and the test patterns are displayed on my PC screen. If I use the pointer on the extended screen (TV) click on it, that makes the screen active and all is well running test patterns for calibration, but when dispcalGUI starts the profiling test patterns the extended screen is dormant and the PC starts displaying the patterns.

What I did was - double click the MadTPG window on the extended desktop to make it go from full screen to window size, then double click again to return it to normal full screen, then the patches would show on the extended display, seems if you are working between 2 displays it picks the main display, this method fixes it back to the correct display /extended.

I followed this guide except for the testchart creation part. I instead used the "default testchart for 3dlut" drop-down option. Now the blacks look grey on my plasma. Suggestions? I couldn't exactly do the testchart thing because it looked different on my version of dispcalGUI.

The guide on the first page is very outdated. Florian has since streamlined everything to a point where the average user really only needs to pick a preset from the dropdown menu up top (madVR, in our case) and select a correction suitable for their screen type (unless you have a spectro).

What you are seeing is probably just the difference between your Plasma's native response and Rec 1886. You can test different tone curves settings on the "3D LUT" tab (disable "Create 3D LUT after profiling" to create a new 3D LUT from an existing profile).

What kind of tone curve would you recommend? Based on what I read Rec 1886 isn't widely used yet, is this correct? I also understand that if I set a gamma setting, it should be based on the lighting in the room. I watch in a pitch dark environment, so what would be a good gamma value? Thank you.

Edit: Calibrating to gamma 2.2 as we speak. I have good faith this will work.

I did have a difficulty with the Interactive Display Adjustment part. I tried many settings in the TV and none changed the brightness of the RGB colors, and as it is, the Green is very dark, while the Red and Blue are both above the middle. I hope this won't ruin the profiling.

After 30 minutes of profiling, it started doing a set of 1400 patches (!!) which would take hours, so I had to cancel. I set the calibration speed to fast so I'm not sure why it's doing so many patches. How do I change that so I can get it over in 30 minutes or so?

Thanks.

See the other thread you created. Your problem is likely not related to calibration, you need to fix your TV settings first.

What kind meter do you have? Probably you can't do anything about it with a given meter but decreasing the size of patches (if you want to save time.)

I reinstalled Windows 10 and drivers. Your double click on the screen fix works like a champ!!!

Thanks,

just tell your Tv the image is side by side and calibrate.

Anybody know if it is possible to connect to a remotely networked Madvr Test Pattern Generator via DispcalGUI? Or does DispcalGUI still need to be running on the same machine as MadTPG?

I've finally gotten time to mess with display calibration again and will update the first post with the latest workflow and screenshots. Sorry for the delay guys.

Hi,
I've created a 3DLUT following the procedure. At the end of the process dispcalgui shows me a window asking for "Install 3DLUT" or "Cancel". I chose "Install 3DLUT" but I am not sure what is the effect, as I checked afterwards in madVR and I needed to install the 3DLUT file manually.
Is this a good election (Install 3DLUT)? Do I need to undo something to prevent collateral effects?

Thanks in advance

It save the 3dlut under OS drive in program data/madvr and set 3dlut in madvr to said 3dlut.

Good idea! I loved your post. I've added a link to it under the step for Calibration tab.

Btw, looks like there are a couple of images missing from section 2 under Preface.

Should I completely remove X-Rite's iProfiler for DisplayCAL under OS X, or would it create any strange end results if left installed?
