Colorimetry Research - New Probes for Display Calibration

There some new interesting meters designed for display calibration work from a new USA-based company called 'Colorimetry Research'.

Light Illusion has been working with Colorimetry Research and Flanders Scientific (FSI Monitors) to integrate the new Colorimetry Research CR-100 Tristimulus Colorimeter, and a bit later the Colorimetry Research CR-250 Spectroradiometer (with 5nm Spectral Bandwidth), with LightSpace CMS.
Rayjr, Chad B, imagic and 2 others like this.

S/W: LightSpace CMS, SpaceMan ICC, SpaceMatch DCM, CalMAN 5, CalMAN RGB, ChromaPure, CalPC, ControlCAL
Meters: JETI Specbos 1211, Klein K-10A, i1PRO2, i1PRO, SpectraCAL C6, i1D3, C5

Is there any indicative pricing?

Hi, at the moment the manufacturer is just quoting that: ''the prices will be lower than equivalent competitive devices''. I will update once I have more news.

Greetings

Looks like $4500-$5000 price range. A bit less than the Klein K-10.

A full review and test of the Colorimetry Research CR-100 has just been published by Tom Huffman (ChromaPure Software).

If for no other reason, this may stimulate some price competition and drive the price down from Klein and CR.

They also have listed a 5nm spectrometer. That should be interesting.

Tools: Calman 5, Chromapure, VideoForge HDMI II, Klein K10A, eecolor colorbox.
Displays: Samsung 64F8500, Panasonic 65VT50, Oppo 95, Pioneer 51, Tivo Roamio and Mini, Dish VIP722.
Audio: Marantz AV8801, Rotel Amps, Atlantic Tech 8200 speakers, Seaton Submersive HP

We have just completed the integration of the CR-250 spectro with LightSpace.
It is a very interesting device, in the same 'body' as the CR-100, and a good price point (sub £4500 GBP)

However, release of the probe to the market is still a little time off... probably later this quarter.

I know Spectracal has a CR unit for testing..so my guess is that support is coming soon.
I also spoke with the owner of CR..and he told me that communication with the CR-100 and the CR-250 is not that differnt.....so my guess is that as soon as you can communicate with one..you will get the other also.

I wonder if Tom at ChromPure is testing with the CR250 as they already have CP working with the CR100.

We have a unit for LightSpace integration work - but it is not the final CR-250RH model, so we can't yet comment on actual functionality.

But, what we have seen is very impressive!
(Integration is slightly different to the CR-100...)

CRI-100?
I think that should be CR-100...
(Not that it really matters)

We have a number of Home Cinema users that have already gone with the CR-100, so there should be a number of independent reports on the probe operation hitting the streets shortly.

As for me personally, the CR-100 has now become my de-facto probe for calibration.
It will be partnered with the CR-250RH as soon as I get the first full release version of that probe.
A near perfect combination of spectro and tri-stim, I think.

I had a long and productive day with the owner of Colorimetry Research.....and had a chance to test 3 CR meters.

1) CR-100 - Tristimulus Colorimeter/Photometer
2) CR-250-RH - Spectroradiometer UPDATED
3) CR-250 with viewing optics - Spectroradiometer

These units are going to be a bit of a game changer IMHO..because of there "bang for the buck" price point.

I will try and answer any questions that you guys have..I tried to get as much info as I could out of him.

Here are some pictures I took.

So you can see exactly the spot that you are measuring.
Not just a general idea of the meters viewing area..very handy when calibrating or testing projectors.
This is the same method used by meters like the Photo Research units.

I see... so it allows you to zoom and focus to see the exact area over which light is being integrated?

No zoom....but focus yes.
When you look threw the unit you see what looks like a black dot in the center of the viewing area...that is what the meter is measuring.
The meter I used today had a 2° Aperture..I am almost 100% sure.

Ray,

Wouldn't this be a problem for those who want to calibrate flat panels and projectors?
