UltraHD Bluray disc project update

I am roughly 65% complete with the disc authoring...a little further behind than anticipated. However, I did figure out how to utilize HDR menus, which triggers HDR on your display and/or device the entire time my disc is within your player! I have been testing along the way and have been achieving great results! Once I get a little closer to a more finalized product, I will reach out to a few folks to beta test. Thank you everyone for your continued support!

Here are the finalized menus:

That is excellent news! I didn't want to complain when I thought it would be otherwise, but this is better. The way my LG switches in and out of HDR mode depending on the input is troublesome and staying in HDR mode throughout an extended session is very welcome.

Absolutely. The UltraHD Bluray spec specifies, menu overlays to be 1920x1080...not necessarily the Menu itself. So now my menus are full 3840x2160 and encoded similar to my current test patterns. However, the actual menu/button overlays get scaled to 3840x2160 by the player and mimic the attributes of the main stream. All in all...a better end user experience!

Members with OLEDs must remember, keep the display of upper IREs to a minimum!
The set heats up, and must be allowed to cool down, elsewise, your setting values will keep constantly changing. Why Calman, when it finished a scan, reverts to a 30% Grey screen.

Hello Ryan,

Currently I'm not using a UHD player but I do own the Nvidia Shield which is 4k capable along with an Epson 5040ub projector. I searched the thread before writing this and came up empty. So here are my questions:

1. Would I be able to use your HDR files on a USB drive via the Nvidia Shield, in order to calibrate my Epson 5040ub for HRD.

2. If so, which files should I download?

3. Would this help with the HDR signals from Netflix and Amazon Video (which are the two sources of HRD content that I currently use)?

Hi welldun

I have yet to test my patterns on the NVIDIA Shield. However, please feel free to test with these patterns Here first, before committing to an actual purchase. Thanks!

Hi SJHT,

Absolutely. The output of my new UltraHD Bluray will be 3840x2160p @23.976 fps. I was simply stating in my earlier post, my motion menus are UHD/HDR, along with my test patterns. However, the menu objects/overlays are 1920x1080 based on current BD spec, then upscaled to 3840x2160 by the player. Thanks!

Hey guys I have a question about the patterns.

I recently got an Oppo 203 so was running the patterns through it to verify my previous UHD/HDR calibration that I did from USB stick on my Sony Z9D.

When I pulled up the grayscale clipping pattern I see the expected result, clipping at around 1800nit on the pattern. But if I hold "info" on the oppo remote it shows the HDR metadata. You can see in the pic below that the pattern has max nits of only 1000?

How is it possible to be displaying information beyond 1000nit if max nits is 1000? Also, I noticed that in the set of 3 max nits patterns (1000, 4000, 10000) that I get the same reading of around 1800nits on each pattern. Shouldn't the 1000nit pattern read 1000?

According to the "title" mp4 file I am using REV015 of the patterns.

I attach a picture i took of the oppo running the clipping pattern for reference:

Additionally, here are my xyY readings for grayscale sweep using the HCFR workflow

Question

Hello Mascior,

i have bought your patterns already a while ago but in case its possible i would need the link redownload the latest version of your patterns again Could you please let me know how retrieve it ?

And a second question you could maybe help me with, i am about to calibrate my E6 for HDR10 as far as its possible using your patterns and HCFR.

Which patterns should i use as i have read different possibilities meanwhile, the LG specific patterns? Or normal ones?
And should i use the code 668 pattern to measure 100 % white in HCFR so: 100/10000 nits point? (as shown in the first pic)

And in case someone knows should i adjust the greyscale steps used in HCFR as there seem to be more than patterns available for LG?

Here are the settings i a using now:

Greetings and thanks in advance.

Hi 10k,

In theory, yes. The 1,000 nit patterns should read to 1,000 nit. In practice, no. I have tested a multitude of HDR10 enabled displays and have came up with different results across all of them. It comes down to how the manufacture wants to interpret the metadata. However, I would definitely recheck all of your configuration settings within your Sony and OPPO, make sure all unnecessary processing is disabled.

Hi RoninF,

Please PM me the email associated with your original purchase and I will generate you a new download link. Regarding your LG, the LG specific patterns can be utilized, however cumbersome due to LG's poor implementation. Reference this post by Kamikaze_Ice HERE and you can also read through the HCFR thread regarding this matter. Thanks!

Hi Dom,

Hopefully still on track for a late second quarter release, say end of June. The entire disc is completely authored and functioning. However, I'm currently working though a small technical issue. Thanks!

Is there some specific help on how to set contrast? Probably not simple , but the instructions for brightness seem more specific. For contrast, do you raise until you see nothing blinking above 1000 or does HDR make things different depending on source material. Thanks. SJ

Thank you for the reply. I'm pretty sure all the settings are correct so it may be that z9 just ignores metadata and does its own thing.

I see that the 10% window patterns metadata says 1000max nits. So if everything was working as intended we would see EOTF track bt2020 reference until 1000nit (around 70% right?) at which point it should flatline and clip the remaining patterns above 1000nit?

Hi 10k,

Properly read peak nit metadata of 1,000 nit would typically roll-off between 65%-70%, clipping at 75.2%(1,000 nit). Given the peak output capabilities of the Z9, it looks like a natural roll-off within the Sony.

I purchased the UHD test pattern and am having an issue trying to run it on my Oppo UHD 203 via USB stick. I went to the basic setup pattern subfolder, and the Oppo can't open the .mp4 file and shoots out an error message. I also tested it on my imac and get the same error. Additionally, the instruction manual pdf was empty in the package I downloaded. Thanks

Hi Leafs2017,

I'm sorry that you are experiencing troubles with your files. As mentioned in the above post, it definitely sounds as though you have a corrupt file. If you still have available downloads, please try a different browser, as Safari has be problematic for some customers. If you are out of download, please PM me your invoice number and/or purchase email, I can reset your limits. Also, for future reference and quicker response, please utilize support@rmadvancedcaldisc.com for any issues. Thank you for your support!

Hello,

How big is the download file ?
I just purchased the suite and it's taking an eternity to download... seems it's stuck around 266mb.

This was done through Safari, maybe I should try google Chrome?
Hi Donmonte,

Safari seems to be problematic for some. Please try another browser like IE, FireFox, or Chrome. The zipped file is approximately 889 MB (932,354,493 bytes) and 3.59 GB (3,864,043,820 bytes) extracted. If you have any further issues and/or concerns, please contact me at ryan_masciola@rmadvancedcaldisc.com. Thank you!

Hi Ryan,

Do you have a free, basic 4K resolution test pattern I can download and put on a thumbdrive? Just want to test my projector. Thanks.

Tom Huffman was able to run a series of tests on my soon to be released UltraHD disc based version & current multi-media version (USB) vs the AccuPel 6000. On a high level here is the outcome vs the disc based version:

-
  • The average difference in absolute luminance between the AccuPel and the disc is 0.75 cd/m2.
  • The average difference in relative luminance between the AccuPel and the disc is 0.0049.
  • The average difference in percent luminance between the AccuPel and the disc is 1.2%.
I've conducted further testing and found variances in readings within USB vs HDMI outputs (which wasn't apparent with my original test setup)...some higher in error. However, my disc based version seems to address this issue completely.

Attached is a more in depth/detailed spreadsheet of the test results. Thanks!

Hi mascior, just bought the uhd test patterns yesterday and noticed now that you are still making modifications and yet to release the final disc. Will I be able to re-download the final test patterns once its 100% complete?
