Hi Ryan,

last "Sendowl download link" I received from you was in February:

R.Masciola's UHD/HDR-10 Test Pattern Suite (.ts/.mp4) update REV_015 re-released!!

Am I using the latest version?

Thank you,
Florian

Hello Ryan.

The Black Clipping and White Clipping patterns are really too short .
It already takes a few seconds before my JVC projector shows the patterns on the screen.
In the mean time, I'm sitting in the dark. This happens every time a pattern changes, and when the pattern apears on the screen, than after 2 seconds my Panasonic UB900 also shows a info screen on top which disappears after 5 seconds.
So when I finally can start using the Cliiping patterns, it almost go to the next Pattern, and the whole leaving in the dark and info-screen happens again and I have to go back and start with this ritual again.

For the regular patterns I always use the Pauze button, but for clipping it's not usefull.
So by using this clipping patterns I'm using the rewind a lot and wait till the infoscreen dissapears again, but during tweaking I'm so focussed on what I do that I forget to rewind, and there it goes again.

Is it possble to get all the Clipping patterns work much longer?

Any help? Up to 2000ish nits can blink. Not sure where to set contrast. Thanks. SJ

How accurate would the clipping pattern be on a Vizio P Series? Does the display have to be profiled, and can it be done for Dolby Vision?

Hi Candle,

Absolutely. I actually have quite a few modifications that will appear in REV_016, including longer durations for a few select patterns. However, this release/Rev will not be available until after the release of my UltraHD disc. Thanks!

Hi SJHT,

Is this a Sony display? Most likely the peak nit metadata is being stripped and what you are seeing is a natural clip within your display, as my clipping pattern is designed for 1,000 peak nit.

Hi DisplayCalNoob,

You would have to utilize an UltraHD Bluray player and feed the patterns directly to your P Series or my soon to be released disc based version. No Dolby Vision at the moment. Thanks!

I believe those are the only ones that work with my UB900. Great test patterns by the way - very useful with my RS4500 ! I'm still going to buy the UHD disc version, but I got impatient !

I'm still confused on the usage of the white clipping pattern. If I max out my contrast, they all blink up to 74%/712. If I can turn down contrast to 93, they all blink. What is my goal for this pattern? Should try all blink? Or only bars up to a certain point?

Hi Sir_Raath,

Unlike traditional SDR white clipping patterns, HDR continuously maps and will always display the clip point based on the peak nit metadata baked into the pattern, unless stripped. My white clipping pattern more or less displays the behavior of your panel and how it responds to specific metadata. In this case 74%/712 flashing and 75.2%/723 blending in with the background, displaying and allowing up to 1,000 nit data on your screen.

All, the release date will more than likely get pushed out a few weeks. The disc itself is completely authored, tested, and ready to go. I am currently working with a company for replication, printing, and packaging. The current delay is acquiring my AACS license and certificate, which is in process. I will have more of definitive release date by the end of next week and most likely start accepting pre-orders. Thank you everyone for your support!

Hi Ryan,

So, with that in mind, what is the proper usage of the white clipping patterns for calibration purposes?

Sir_Raath

Use this pattern as a point of reference. These patterns are designed with a peak nit value of 1,000 nit. This clipping pattern simply shows how your display interprets this metadata. Some displays clip past the 1,000 nit mark, while others clip slightly under. Some displays ignore and/or strip the peak nit metadata, while others may comply. From a calibration stand point, this pattern is to be used strictly as a point of reference. Contrast adjustments and/or true peak nit output measurements would require one of my 10% test patches, a meter, and calibration software.
