I'm going to be getting a new Samsung KS8000 in a few hours and when I bought the tv I'm about to retire a few years ago (Panasonic ST30 plasma), I remember I used Dnice's panel preparation instructions before calibrating the tv. I've tried finding information of if I need to do something similar with this new tv but so far have come empty handed. So can anyone tell me if there is some sort of process I need to do to ensure I end up getting the best picture once I calibrate it or do I just turn it on, change the settings and that's it?
You should be good to go as soon as you take it out of the box. Just do a software update, wait for the meter to warm up and stick the TV in Movie mode.
KS8000 uses a blue LED backlight with a quantum dot layer, so I don't think you even need to worry about the usual yellow phosphor on White LED's breaking down over time (I'm sure someone will correct me if wrong).
Oh and make sure you use patterns that stop CE Dimming from taking effect. If you're using HCFR set This as your wallpaper and then set the pattern generator like this:
If your video card is not set to output Full RGB then change the bottom radio button to "0-255"
Have you meters also connected/powered from their USB for about 20-30min (warm-up)......usually users confuse warm up (it's doesn't mean to let the meter on-contact with the display to become warmer from display's hear, warm up means the meter to be connected and powered from the USB, not become warm from the panel..just leave their USB plug connected with your notebook for some time before starting measurements. The recommended warm up time is about 20-30 min. The exact time depends from the temperature conditions. It can be longer if the device came from out side in winter time and will be shorter if stored at room temperature.
Actually that makes sense as LED lights intensity (and power draw) change as they warm up. The quantum dot layer might be effected too.
Also LCD crystals probably twist slightly differently depending on temperature as well.
How much would this effect dE though? You would probably be measuring and doing initial tweaks for at least 30min, and by the time you hit he half hour mark everything would be stabilized.
