A little advice if you buy something from Best buy. Buy it online and choose to pick up at the store. Usually you get a better price and you get $10 off if the order takes longer than a minute when you pick it up. They never have items right there ready when you go pick up the item. They usually have to fumble around looking for it and it takes over a minute. Yesterday I bought a CD (online, store pickup). The 2 CD set was 14.99. I went to the store to pick it up after I received the confirmation email saying it was ready and when I got to the store, they had to try to find it. It took about 3 minutes, so I got $10 off. it came out to $5.40 after tax. Not bad. This is the second time I have taken advantage of this $10 discount. Last time I ordered MLB 08 the show and the same thing happened.

What?

If they have a policy where they have set the rules and he's following them, how is he using it against them?

Rules are rules. If a place says my pizza will be delivered in 30 minutes and it comes at the 35 minute mark, you bet I'll be taking that sucker for free!

I'll give it a try. I like to rattle the cages over there. Keep the managers on their toes

The store made a guarantee for promotional purposes, obviously.

Unfortunately, the people in their marketing/promotions division failed to realize that the 17-year-old kid behind the customer service desk is not only very unorganized, but also couldn't care less about getting things done in a timely fashion (I dont meant to rope all teenagers into this category, but this particular branch is clearly working slower than expected). Because of this, the OP is getting something at a discount.

The OP is holding the store to their policy, which everyone should do, and perhaps the manager will question why the store has been giving these discounts out to everyone. He or she will retrain his/her employees and motivate them properly, in order to meet the 1 minute criteria.

The OP has done nothing immoral or illegal. Its not like he is demanding something for free, out of the blue, because the service was so poor. He's simply taking advantage of what has been given to him through poor marketing on the part of BB.

I think you were being called out for making it sound like the OP was taking unfair advantage of BB. But as others already said, the policy exists for precisely the reason he's using it. He's not using anything "against them." They set the rules, and he's following them.

What an odd discussion.

Thanks for the tip, though. Didn't know BB did that.

The poor kids job sucks, his dad is probably pissed at him all the time, his girlfriend is probably sneaking with his best friend and now he has to dig your game out in less than a minute or he will get his ass chewed by the manager? Damn have some mercy.

Ditto on mine....I've done this pick-up thing about 2 dozen times, and they always have it right there. But if they didn't, I wouldn't have qualms about using the policy.

Sounds like his store sucks. If they can't deliver on their own promises, he should use the policy against them.

No I'm on the OP's side. I was saying way to go! You know like good job. It's funny how things get twisted when there's no emotion involved. But my stance is hold them to their policy and make them give you the discount.

The problem with Best Buy that I have had is that sometimes it takes hours if not the next day for me to get my confirmation email. CC doesnt do game in-store pickups but for anything they do I always use them. There policy is if its not ready within 24 minutes from your placing your order you get a $24 gift card. I have gotten my share of gift cards. Just to bad they dont have in-store pickups for video games. Maybe someday.

One of the greatest posts I have read

The best buy closest to me has a shelf right there so I doubt it will work for me. Though I think next time I need something I will go to the store and order it right on my LG Dare and then just wait for the confirmation email back and then ask them where it is. lol That I think would be my only chance to beat them.

I might do this for the 360 Elite. I was gonna buy it in store tomorrow, but I guess online makes sense. I HOPE they don't get the system in time.
