Lol...my characters hands are clean of innocent blood at least. I think I killed a khajit who was trying to sell me drugs though.

When creating potions, you are presented with a list of your ingredients separated by categories. These might read something like restore health or damage magicka.

My approach had always been to take two-three ingredients from one category and then create a potion. I thought if I did this enough, I would learn more and discover more properties but dang that was going slow.

What I didn't realize was that I could take two or three ingredients from different categories and try to combine them. In doing so, I can discover lots of properties and get many more options!

All of a sudden, I was leveling up pretty fast, creating potions I didn't think I could, etc. I combine 2 random ingredients... BAM, invisibility! Two more random ingredients, BAM, underwater breathing. Effects of the ingredients are reveling themselves left and right. It was really cool. Money!

Pretty cool.

Like I said, y'all probably knew this but I didn't and wanted to share just in case.

You can just eat the different ingredients to learn their powers. One time I ate like 30 different ingredients at once and my guy was all sort of colors.

Is waterbreathing ever important/necessary? I've collected a number of Philter and Elixirs of Waterbreathing but never needed one. I hold onto them just in case but I can't seem to find a single time where they would be useful.

There is a sunken ship in the Northern most part of the map that you need water breathing to get to. I'm sure there are similar things elsewhere. I've found some neat stuff dredging the oceans.

Ran into a dang glitch in the Reunification of Skyrim and cannot get past it. Tried reloading to before I was given this section but still cannot get past it. Glad I am about done with the game.

I can't think of any underwater places where they'd be absolutely necessary...simply helpful. Since lock-picking or opening a chest pauses time, you can surface after without an issue.

I'm throwing on spoiler tags if you'd like to know more about waterbreathing options.

There are a few pieces of hardware around Skyrim that have waterbreathing in them. If you find one and it's heavy, I suggest you disenchant it and place it on something light - like a ring or necklace. When you enchant your item, use the weakest soul gem you have, it won't make a difference on the power of the item you're enchanting with waterbreathing.

There is also the "Volsung" mask, which has waterbreathing as one of it's enchantments.

I gave up on the game when I hit that. I was about 100 hours in, and then spent several more trying to get past the bug.

I have tried all "fixes" I found from the web for this and could not get past it. Very glad I had pretty much finished everything before hitting this or I would be upset. Now just wasting time with the game till ME3 comes out.

Is there a good place to save in the campaign to reload to if this "Reunification of Skyrim glitch" crops up? I've hit plenty of bugs lately but nothing game ending.

You could try to save before you make a choice on what side to take in the war. The problem I could see with that though is if you had to go back to it, it will probably be a few hours lost.

Thanks, I save a fair amount but I also do frequent deleting of save files to keep them from getting out of hand. So I'll hang onto that save file.

Awesome! Does this mean they will also hold back from attacking people the moment enemies are in line of sight?

Am going to fire up Skyrim for the first time soon... any real dealbreakers if I don't wait for the latest update, or should I wait for this patch? Or general 'don't play this certain questline yet' advice?

The biggest break I know of is in the fighter's guild questline, but I see it's (mostly) fixed now:

Their site states that the 1.5 patch had to be pulled from PCs because of issues, I don't expect us to see 1.5 on the console for awhile.

The other night I discovered something useful when creating Damage Health potions:

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Not all ingredients are equal. Deathbell makes damage health potions 1.5x stronger than normal. River Bettys make them 2.5x stronger. Sadly, they don't compound each other. I haven't noticed this with any other potions or ingredients yet.

Nice use of kinect's voice recognition. There could be several games that would benefit with that kind of integration. It's basically quick keys using your voice but cool none the less.

That is AWESOME, just for the shouts I might need to get a kinect. Not sure how much my wife will appreciate it though lol. I wonder if it will work if you say the shouts in same inflection as in the game, the dude in the video sounded very monotonous.

It will! The kinect is really good about that stuff!! In the mass effect demo I said a few lines how I would say them in real life (angry and lound), kinect understood perfectly. I'm sure you could SHOUT a shout and it would understand just fine!

Enjoy!
