Activision Announces Guitar Hero 5,' New Tony Hawk,' Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2,' More At In-Game Ad Conference
Posted by Patrick Klepek on 12/3/08 at 4:20 pm.

We know Activision Blizzard loves sequels.

Just moments ago, the publisher revealed a slate of follow-ups coming this year at an Massive Inc. upfront attended by Stephen Totilo.

An upfront is where publishers showcase their upcoming lineup to advertisers and are a new practice for games. Upfronts occur every year for TV and movies.

This event is being held in downtown Manhattan to get advertisers pumped to buy more ads in games. Massive is a Microsoft-owned firm that did the Barack Obama ad in Burnout Paradise.

At the meeting, Activision Blizzard showcased new games that would make sense for in-game ads, including the vaguely titled Guitar Hero 5, which included a screen shot of gameplay with a Burger King ad to the right of the note highway.

The publisher confirmed rumors that Tony Hawk will be different this year. You're not going to be playing this game with a controller in your hands, said the company. The new Tony Hawk arrives on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii and DS in October.

Additionally, Activision Blizzard acknowledged the Call of Duty series will move forward yet again with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2″ coming this fall. No details on the game were released.

We've also heard rumors that Bizarre Creations was working on a racing-oriented James Bond game, which have turned out to be true. The original Bond adventure, not tied to a movie storyline, is coming this September. The former Project Gotham Racing studio is also working on an original racing IP for the publisher, which they tagged as Mario Kart' meets Forza.'

Curiously, the lineup included absolutely no Blizzard Entertainment games.

If any more news breaks from the Massive Inc. upfront, we'll let you know.

----------------

Seriously, COD4...2? Like CoD8?

anyways, this is great news for the Modern Warfare fanatics. you know who you are! I wonder if this is going to be made by IW again. Any new game play mechanics you guys want to see? New weapons? etc. Discuss...

no, that's my celebration gif! I'm happy, yes. But I think the new cod is a fantastic game. Very difficult, but a great game. I think Treyarch will be working on vietnam next, then they will keep staggering the games. One year, world at war 2, then vietnam, modern warfare 3, etc. My theory

Nothing showed up it is just blank. I just ordered World at War so I am looking forward to playing it. I am just glad the next one will be modern. I may be in the the minority but I don't mind that they went back to WWII.

I know of a few I don't want to see. For example infinite enemy spawns until you cross an invisible line. It sort of makes sense in the WW2 context (especially something like Stalingrad or whatever) but what the hell was IW thinking in a modern context versus terrorists?

CoD4's singleplayer was awful imo. I couldn't even be arsed to finish it.

Well, CoD2 singleplayer is probably the best SP FPS I have ever played, so yea I was pretty bummed by that actually. I got plenty of value out of the game in multi, but I still think its fair to criticize the SP.

I'm liking the SP of COD4 (yeah, still trying to beat it more than year after it was released)

yes, I also beat COD2 which was also good.

I wonder if SOAP will be back or will they go with an American protagonist? Maybe a woman to stir things up a bit?

Other than the respawning, COD4 was one of the best, most engaging singleplayer games I've ever played. Sucked me in much more than COD2 or 3 and I'm normally a huge WWII buff.

So did I. I thought the campaign was great. Yah the wave after wave of terrorists got old, but every game has mechanic issues. I thought the story, the gameplay, and the overall experience was top notch. I thoroughly enjoyed the SAS missions (not so much the USMC ones), and really hope we get more 'SEAL' type missions on the next go around.

COD4 is God.

COD4 II is Jesus.

We have reached the Messiah.

I really hope they look to the show Futureweapons on Discovery/Military channel. These are real weapons, available now.. that use much of the same ammo we've been used to for the past few decades. The only difference is the weapons are more smaller, smarter and more accurate. One of my favourite guns in COD4 is the G36C. Because it fires the same ammo as the M4.. but is alot more accurate and the RDS moves around alot less.

COD:W@W sucks balls. I hate how big and heavy the weapons are. I hate how all the automatic weapons take an entire clip to kill someone. I hate how most of the weapons thats DONT take an entire clip to kill someone, are single shot rifles. And I hate how bad the sights suck on all of the weapons!!

I'm sure this will be good, but what will be new/better about the game? I was hoping for maybe some futuristic weapons. I have a sneaking suspicion we are all going to have a "been there, done that" feeling with the game much like COD5. COD5 gave us more of COD4 with spruced graphics but it still feels very familiar (not saying thats bad, just....well....). We shall see.

COD 5 blows. I cannot invest in a story that keeps going back to WW-f'ing-II. I just don't care anymore, and there has been plenty of conflict both currently and in the last 10 years to draw inspiration from, and there have been plenty of advancements in weaponry as well. One step forward two steps back for the franchise with COD 5.

I dont want alot of new shyt in COD6. Maybe new weapons and 1 or 2 new perks here and there. But definitely no scientific, fake azz, futuristic Halo weapons or Superhuman abilities.

I think overall.. COD4 MP is very, very well balanced. Every weapon or perk has a weapon or perk to cancel it out. The same goes with the MP maps, there is a successful way to fight to victory on every single map (except the "C" position on Creek and Bog)

So sign me up as saying.. "I want more been there done that". Hell I would be perfectly happy if they charged us $30.. and gave us 10 new COD4 MP maps on DLC.

Im not saying COD4 is perfection.. but I am saying I dont have a single complaint about it.

how do you figure that, when the M4 has the least recoil out of all of the fully auto AR's? the M4 is the most accurate fully auto AR in the game, followed by the G36C...

Im going to have see proof on that 5.1.6. so I'm heading to COD4central now.

And I guess what Im trying to say is the RDS on the G36c moves around less than any other gun in the game. The dot also seems smaller. I'll brb.. with EVIDENCE!!!!

Got Dammit.. I hate being wrong:

CoD4 Weapon G36C
Click here for the the full in-depth G36C Guide.
Crunchies G36C Guide.
Weapon: Heckler & Koch G36C
Accuracy: 8+ / 12
Damage: 7 / 12
Range: 9 / 12
Fire Rate: 7 / 12
Mobility: 8 / 12
Clip Size/Reserve Ammo: 30/60
Recoil: moderate cluster
Reload Time: 2.1 seconds / 2.967 empty
Good Perks/Attachments: Bandolier, Stopping Power, Red Dot Sight
The compact version of the G36, a successor to the G3 used in militaries worldwide. Fires in full-auto. This rifle tends to work better in medium-close quarters. You may want to use Bandolier to bolster your ammo, because it's a spray-friendly kind of gun.
(Note: You unlock the G36C at Rank 37 Lieutenant Colonel) Damage: 20-30
Range: 1500-2000 / 500-1000 SD
Rate of Fire: 750 RPM Single
Penetration: Medium / Large Bullet
Location Damage Multiplier: Head (1.4) / Neck: (1.0) / Torso: (1.0) / Stomach: (1.0) / Limbs (1.0)
Hip Accuracy: Stand (3-7) / Crouch (2.5-6) / Prone (2-5)

CoD4 Weapon M4-Carbine
Click here for the Full M4 Guide.
Weapon: M4 Carbine
Accuracy: 9 / 12
Damage: 5 / 12
Range: 9 / 12
Fire Rate: 9 / 12
Mobility: 8 / 12
Clip Size/Reserve Ammo: 30/60
Recoil: low cluster
Reload Time: 2.03 seconds / 2.36 empty
Good Perks/Attachments: Stopping Power, Red Dot Sight, Steady Aim
Standard service carbine of the U.S. Armed Forces, preferred weapon of the Marine Corps. Fires on full-auto. This is one of the most popular guns you'll see on most servers, since it can lay a lot of bullets on a target in a very short amount of time with minimal recoil. On paper it's not very powerful, but if you aim it carefully it'll drop enemies in short order. If you just can't seem to draw a bead on moving targets with the burst-fire M16, switch to the M4 and you should get better results. This one does just about everything you'll want it to, except for maybe max-range sniping and super-fast ninja-ing. Damage: 20-30
Range: 1500-2000 / 500-1000 SD
Rate of Fire: 850 RPM Single
Penetration: Medium / Large Bullet
Location Damage Multiplier: Head (1.4) / Neck: (1.0) / Torso: (1.0) / Stomach: (1.0) / Limbs (1.0)
Hip Accuracy: Stand (3-7) / Crouch (2.5-6) / Prone (2-5)

But trust me.. when im crouched in a corner. And zoomed in. Waiting to tear somebody's azz apart. The RDS sight on this gun moves less than anything else I've tried.

How about they bring the full auto G3 and the Eotech sights into MP? KTHNX.

They also need the NTW-20 rifle. Google and be in awe.
