Thanks--bought it. Now I'm paid through the end of 2016 . What would have been the advantage of buying from Amazon?

None, really...I prefer them, have never dealt with GS. I have PRIME, and my wife has a card where every Amazon purchase gets 3X rewards.

I've been a Prime member since the program started and consequently buy tons of things from them, but I can't see a reason for preferring to buy an electronic delivery item from them. Then again I don't have a card which gives extra rewards for purchasing from them.

Yeah, it's just preference, plain and simple. I have bought from ebay 6 times, and have been ripped off three of those. So I really don't like going that route. I don't put my info out there and trust many different online retailers... Ratuken, and CDKeys, are among those. I have read a lot of good experiences with them, it's just not me.

We are also a few points away from being able to purchase a FIRETV, solely on the rewards points.

Most allow purchase via Paypal, the option that I take, including most eBay purchases, though Paypal doesn't offer much help in getting your money back when you've been ripped off. (Recently I spent $1600 on a television bought online from Walmart; when I returned the defective set for a refund, I discovered that they have no way to chargeback to Paypal, so they gave me the refund in cash ).

Nice (though I have a Fire TV stick that I bought for $20 on its launch day; cool, but it doesn't do anything a bunch of other devices I already own don't).

I was in GameStop today to purchase Dying Light and picked up Assassins Creed Unity used for super cheap (7-day rental probably, not liking it so far) but they will also do the XBL cards for only $40 if interested.

The electronic delivery code is tax-free, though they certainly operate B&Ms in CA. I wonder if there's tax to pay on the physical cards?

Good point - I'm sure they would have charged tax but I think almost all internet purchases do the same now, but not sure - I like the immediate return - take this $hit back it sucks! option (good times over?).

That's kind of been an issue for me, as well...(subscriptions to HULU/Netflix, 3 360's, XB1, multiple PC's, tablets, and a Sammy SMART TV...) We cut the cord about 6 months ago, so the upside for me of the FIRETV, will be sideloading XBMC.

Thanks, been looking for a decent discount and this is the best that's shown in a while.

Question - what happens if you let your Gold subscription lapse? Do you keep your gamertag and whatnot and just revert to the "silver" level or whatever they call it now?

Good question (they call it "Xbox Live Free" now). That's certainly what I'd expect to happen. The purpose of the "Free" account is to be able to sell you things, like DD games, DLC, music and video. Even if you're not signed up for Gold they want to be able to do that.

Amazon has 12 month XBOX Live subscriptions for $39.99 as well.

No tax charged apparently.

I live in California and have never paid tax at a B&M store when purchasing Xbox Live Money cards, and I believe the Xbox Live Subscription cards are the same.

I'm guessing because they are treated just like gift cards.
