$160 for 7.1 wireless? Sounds too good to be true, so we'll wait for the reviews...

Is the A50 the best solution for wireless headphones?

New ones look interesting. Haven't seen an in depth review on surround processing yet though...

Picked up a pair at best buy tonight. Took around 4.5 hours to charge and then... nothing. They don't even turn on. I'll try to swap them out tomorrow.

I'd be curious how they perform simulated surround-wise on FPSers.

Did they finally fix the earcup buzzing when using the mic from the gen1/2s?

How's the audio quality in general?

I've been doing lots of research for my next gaming headphones/headset and i really want them to be 100% wireless, no chat cable or anything. I want to be able to walk around the house while talking to my friends without having to carry the Xbox One controller with me. When my bulldog jumps atop of me or on the couch...i don't want the risk her paw will get stuck in the wiress and everything else that follows.

Turtle Beach Elite 420x
Turtle Beach Elite 800x
Astro A50

Seem to be the only true wireless ones for Xbox One. I tried out the 800x and while the bass was decent, overall sound was very muddy. It was good when using stereo mode...but come on....stereo mode on these dolby headphones? Other point of critique....the mic apparently is quite damn terrible. My friends told me i sounded much worse than my other mics. Which are....super standard earbuds from my old Galaxy S4 phone that i used to have and a wireless headphones with a Vmoda boom mic attached to it. Those two completely beat the mic of the 800x and according to people on the Astro forums, the new a50's don't fare too well in that regard as well. Ridiculous considering the price you pay for them. Apparently for some owners there are also sound cutoffs on the A50s.

There are other options, but not completely wireless and those are the Steelseries and Vmoda gaming headphones. Maybe i'll just buy the A50 from a store that accepts returns. Try them out, see how bad/if there are any issues, how the mic quality is and then decide what to do.

I didn't notice any earcup buzzing but wasn't necessarily listening for it.

The surround works fairly well. Much better with it on than in Stereo. I can accurately tell where sounds are coming from relative to my location so I can't really ask for more.

As far as audio quality goes, I feel like they aren't as crisp as my old Senns were but have no way to compare. I used to have A40's with the mixamp and later replaced the cans with some Sennheiser PC 360's. I was quite happy with that setup but it has been a few years since I've played with them and no longer have them so can't compare. It could just be psychological because I expect the AQ to be worse on wireless so TIFWIW.

1. Consider buying the TB Stealth 500X if you can find them on Amazon(still some new ones around). I use these, surround is solid, and has a great mic(w/ a boom stick). Very happy w/ these, no complaints. Basically the 800 w/o the charging stand and a way better mic.
2. Wait for Lucid Sound LS40'S to be released this December(supposedly). The LS30's(wired) got really good reviews for price/performance ratios.
Hope that helps...

I guess I need to consider a better headset for Xbox One. I already have surround sound, so I really don't want one of those big headsets. I just want a chat mic that works, but nobody seems to make a good one. The MS ones for XB1 are really uncomfortable. I still use the wired 360 one with stereo headset adapter, but people can barely hear me on it. So are there any decent options for just CHAT? IF not, what's the most comfortable and lightest surround headset for XB1?

Well, I ordered one. I'm in the mood for something different. Can't believe I'm putting money into this stuff again. I still hate XB1, but I expect to be on Gears 4 for a while.

Thanks

no problem, hope you enjoy it. make sure there is a boom mic in the box, if not call polk and they will send you one for free. i have been using the polk 4 shot for a couple years now and have never had one fail, unlike the many turtle beach headsets i have owned. polk makes a quality headset. music sounds great on it too.

****ing Amazon sellers. Bought a new product, and they sent me an open box one. Zip ties were all cut and fell out of the box when I opened it. No boom mic either. It's going back. Any thoughts on Polk's current offerings? Striker Pro Zx ? I prefer something current that I can actually get from a real retailer. I don't understand this spending $130 on a stereo headset though. Why the hell doesn't Polk make proper surround ones?

Just got my LucidSound LS40 yesterday. Was only able to play around with them for only an hour. Early on, good sound, not mind blowing. It seems like it has a hollow sound to them, but may need to make some adjustments. Has slight hissing sound as well. Like the fact that they work with all systems PC, PS4, and Xbox. Build quality and comfort is very good as well. More info to come.

Considered them, but the cable to the controller was a downer.

Cable is only needed if you are chatting to your friends. No need for cable if you are not chatting. Not a real big deal. More things I noticed. When chatting with the cable, there is a slight hiss. Goes away once you unplug the cable. Better sound than the Turtle Beach XO Seven. There are still some audio issues when playing Groove Music in Forza Horizon 3. Audio just seems off. Call Of Duty Remastered is good for explosions and guns, but still has this weird echo. Maybe it's a digital thing, because I don't hear it when in Stereo mode. Switched over to the PS4, and playing Uncharted, the voices seem to echo as well.

Well, chat is big deal for me lol. My TB500X's surround processing is very good. How's the surround on that model? They touted it as it was gonna be the best surround sound processing to come along.

I think the surround is done very well. Since I have only had stereo headsets for the Xbox, it's harder to compare. Only way is to compare the PS Golds and Turtle Beach 520s. I think the TB has a slight edge, but the LS40's are better than the golds for sure. Played RE7 and sounds really good.

I'm looking at these in case my 500X's bite the dust(again):

Hello, my name is Aaron and I'm the head of product at LucidSound. Thanks for picking up the LS40! From your comments it sounds like there may be something wrong with the headset or something is configured wrong. Part of the reason we chose DTS Headphone:X for the surround sound is because of the lack of "echo" and "reverb" that you hear with other surround algorithms. HP:X delivers very clear positional audio. When you press the EQ button, do you hear the two surround modes (gaming and boosted) and the stereo mode cycle through, or just the 3 stereo modes? If it's the latter, make sure you have your console set to output a Dolby bitstream to the optical port.

As for the hiss from having the chat cable connected, that's because the Xbox One controller shares a ground for both the mic and speaker output on the 3.5mm jack which causes a faint hiss (you can faintly hear it even if you plug in passive headphones into the controller). The noise of this will vary depending on which version controller you're using or if you're using the headset adapter or chat pad. Internally we route the mic directly back into the headset for the mic monitor. The mic monitor amplifies this hiss back into the headset. You'll notice that as you adjust the game volume up and down that the hiss goes up and down with it (mic monitor tracks game volume). You can disable the mic monitor by holding the mic mute button for 3 seconds and the hiss will go away. It's pretty faint and I find that when I'm using it with my Elite controller that I only notice it if I have the game volume over 70% and I'm in a menu or waiting for the game to load when no audio is playing.

We require the chat cable because the LS30 and LS40 are universal headsets. Only Xbox One only headsets can be licensed and use the fully wireless chat. That said, we announced our licensing partnership with Xbox at CES and will have some big announcements at E3 this year.

Anyway, let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

Thanks!
That's good to hear, because I plan on buying from you when I purchase my new Scorpio this year. That is of course if you have a completely wireless set up!
