I like that one.

Well I have already started to prep my better half about a system. As soon as I was speaking with her about one, her reply was is this for your game? She is always very good about me picking things up since the stuff I enjoy keeps me at home and not out running around. We will see how things go closer to the arrival of the game.

Electronic Arts is setting the bar high for Battlefield 3.

Speaking during the Ad Age Digital Conference in New York City today, CEO John Riccitiello confirm it will launch Battlefield 3 in November of this year and said the publisher has rival Activision's Call of Duty series in its sights.

"This November, we're launching Battlefield 3. It's going up against the next Call of Duty, which is presently the #1 game in the game industry," he said. "A game that last year did $400 million dollars in revenue on day one. [Battlefield 3] is designed to take that game down."

Riccitiello later compared this holiday's battle between the two games to the Red Sox/Yankees rivalry in baseball and said gamers can expect to see massive advertising campaigns for both titles.

"There will be a couple hundred million dollars of marketing against these two products going head to head. We think we have the better product," Riccitiello added.

EA Games president Frank Gibeau echoed similar comments during GDC last month when he told us: "Everybody loves a heavyweight fight, and that's what this is going to be. We're here to compete."

Let me add that I thought this whole approach was lame when Bad Company 2 was coming out and it will be lame this time as well. I'm sure the Call of Duty folks think it's cute.

yeah the underdog role is one that EA should be used to by now. It does NOT garner sales.

I hate this type of stuff and I really hope they don't make any drastic changes to entice the CoD players to switch over (ie, feel and controls).

Their is no reason both can't co-exist...just keep the selfish little kids playing CoD and I'll be happy.

Please let that happen!

The lines are already drawn for the most part. Most people already know what BF3 and COD feel like and will go to that franchise.

The whole 'we're going to take COD down' ad campaign is just annoying. Then again, most ad campaigns are annoying...

I think the only way they can take COD down is to change the BF feel to be more of a COD feel. It could take down COD, but piss off BF fans. In other words, I'm not sure it's possible to take down COD AND keep current BF fans happy. I suppose they could try somewhere in the middle, and see who shows up.

Supposedly it's out on 11/2, but I don't think that's been confirmed.

I certainly am not wishing the summer away...especially with the winter we just had. I'll have to pick up MoH again so that I can get into the eventual beta to tide me over.

Amazon has the LE BF3 edition slated for a 12/31 release...

If that's a mistake I'd be happy!

They do that when they know the year it's going to be released, but not the day.

My guess is, they will wait until the annual COD is announced with a release date and then try to come out a week before that.

My pre-order with Amazon shows "Delivery Estimate: January 4, 2012".

Since we are talking months away, I would expect things to change.

If that's the case, this will give me time to play Gears3. The later the better for me.

I'm on the fence on doing a PC build for this. I spent SO much time playing BF2 on my pc....plus the expansions....plus the mods. At the same time I've really come to enjoy BFBC2 with everyone here on the xbox.

I know I want a PC for SWTOR so that combined with this might be enough to push me to do it.

Once we get a solid release date, we should start putting together a list of folks that play on PC's as well. I'd prefer jumping in with this group rather than those 'racist 13 year olds!'

And a frugal build list wouldn't be a bad idea either.

toms hardware usually has "budget gaming pc" builds that you can easily use as a baseline and go from there...

As for the game release, it'll get here when it gets here. I'm in no rush, and I really hope they don't try to release it a week before CoD's next release. That means the following will happen:
1. Person buys BF3 "Hey, this'll be awesome!"
2. Person plays BF3 and runs into bugs, glitches, lag due to rushed release "WTF? Where's the patch?!"
3. Person decides to sell BF3 back in hopes that CoD is better. "I never should've doubted CoD!"
4. CoD comes out, fully polished due to less rushed release. "Ahh, a working game!"
5. ?????
6. Profit.

Ha...see ya later, don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out!

I couldn't care less when they release it, as long as they release it when they are done, not to make a date. They did well in holding BC2 until the following year last time, and while I'd rather sooner than later, I just want it to be a finished product.

I've been spending too much time lately spec'ing out a rig. I need/want a new PC to replace my aging Mac, it's just a matter of when I do it. I need to find out how they hold up gaming on an LCD, since it would most likely be a HTPC for me.

Fixed that for you Zath. FWIW, if you remember both the BLops and MW2, neither one was issue free on release.

Here's the thing: everything we've seen of Battlefield 3 has been running on PC, and maybe five percent of PC players are going to get that kind of graphical fidelity. For a lot of folks, the console version is going to be their only choice -- so what should they expect?

According to DICE executive producer Patrick Bach, the console version obviously won't have all the graphical bells and whistles of its PC counterpart. Speaking to Videogamer, Bach said the console port will lack the "higher resolution, the higher framerate, the anti-aliasing, the motion blur, stuff like that" that we've seen in the trailers released so far.

Still, it's not all doom and gloom. Despite some performance differences between Bad Company 2 on the PC and consoles, for example, both run quite smoothly and looked great.

there are some graphics setting on the PC you could turn off or not all the way up and not notice any difference, e.g. in bad company 2 I did a comparison with 2x AA vs 8x AA @ 1080P and the game looks the same but I get about 12-15 less fps with 8X and I'm sure BF3 will be no exception.

Anyways.....

Wish I could justify the scratch for a new gaming rig for this, but I think I'll have to resign myself to the console version... I'll be missing that eye candy though

I prob will get it on console. Still haven't decided on ps3 or 360 though. I'm leaning towards 360 because it seems there are more avsers on it. Sad thing is I'm prob better using a controller now than I am a mouse and keyboard since it's been so long. I think the last computer game I played regularly was unreal tournament.

It sucks we have to wait so long for this game when the trailers look so good already!

Its a Terrence and Phillip episode. I'm not your buddy, guy! Also may be a Dane Cook reference which is what I use chief from a lot.

I'll definitely be getting this for console. Need a new computer at some point anyway, but not going to build one just for this especially when most of my friends are playing on 360.
