I'm posting this here because there was, a discussion on this during an mw3 game tonight, so the people involved will see it here.

Lizard, here's a link from Slashgear: http://www.slashgear.com/playstation...ames-29220577/

If true, on the Xbox side, what Blowfish was saying could be a real problem because you'd basically be tied one person to a disc. Families would be forced to buy multiple copies. On the PlayStation side it sounds like something similar to what EA does. You can buy a used copy but then you pay extra to "activate" it, but it still sounds like it's one PSN account per disc. In my mind the consumer's getting the shaft either way.

"First run" retailers it seems would be pretty much unaffected because they're still offering a disc for sale. Frankly I'd be surprised if this comes to pass in the next gen, between the backlash they'll hear from the used game market and consumers. I don't think they could get away with cutting off the used market all at once. I expect it to be a more gradual transition.

P.S. I typed all that on my phone. Hopefully it's coherent. :-)

This weekend, on March 30th, we will be adding three FFA gunplay modes to the Community Playlists on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

The new modes are available to ALL players.

The FFA Gunplay playlist cycles 4 different modes:

There are 2 Gun Game variations.

-One variation uses an 18 gun progression including 2 sniper rifles to separate the men from the boys.

-The second variation cycles 6 guns 3 times (no sniper rifles) so learn the 6 gun progression and pace yourself through the 3 waves.

One In The Chamber uses the P99 handgun.

-Players begin with one bullet and earn a bullet for every kill (with gun or tactical knife).

-Elimination occurs after 3 deaths but the last 3 players will be visible on the mini-map to keep the action rolling.

-Eliminated players can chase remaining players in spectator mode and back a winner of their choosing by selecting them.

-Selecting a player that you're spectating gives you 150 XP for each of their subsequent kills so you can still stay in the game after you're eliminated.

Lastly there is a new variation on Free For All that was created by our community and we LOVE. Players call it All Or Nothing.

-All players spawn with the USP .45 handgun with no ammo and a Throwing Knife.

-The loadout includes the Hardline perk and Specialist point streak with Scavenger in the first slot.

-As you get kills, you pick up scavenger packs and get ammo.

-Once you're killed you spawn back with no ammo and start again.

-It's like One in the Chamber meets Infected with plenty of hilarity mixed in.

All feedback should be directed to twitter @InfinityWard.

That's a lot of modes. Kinda lame that gun game isn't its own playlist though.

Game Modes

Escort, a new game mode similar to Search and Destroy however a live player must be escorted to one of three areas (or two depending on the map) without being killed. The match will have rounds, consisting of one life only.
Drop Zone and Kill Confirmed will return
Team Defender and Infected will not return

Pointstreaks

Will follow from Modern Warfare 3's system

Larger emphasis on objectives
A bomb plant is worth 2 points
A neutral flag is worth 1, however an enemy flag is worth 2
flag assist capture is worth 1, a capture is worth 2
The Specialist Pointstreak has be modified. 2 kills now gets you 1 perk. The 4th kill gets you 2 more perks. The 6th kill gets you 3 more perks. The 8th Kill gets you 4 more perks. You do not get every perk when you reach 8 kills. Perks only become "Pro" when you have them Pro
RC XD will not return
Heat vision is a new Pointstreak reward. When you get the required points, you can activate this Pointstreak and your player pulls out a scope and attaches it to your weapon. This scopes main advantage is it's ability to detect enemies through most walls. Note, the scope can only be attached to primaries not including shotguns
Item Packages requires 5 points. Fall along side care packages and air drop traps. Features a list of package items only including ammo, mini gun, grenade launcher, rocket launcher, and body armor

Prestiges

There will be 15 prestiges
There will be 50 ranks
Every two prestiges there is a 5 rank increase
The final prestige has 90 levels

ELITE 2.0

ELITE is being fully incorporated into Black Ops 2
Combat record has been modified and re-named as ELITE Stats
There will be a specific lobby for clan matches (new way of leveling clans)
Clan Tournaments can now be implemented

Removed

No MOAB or Nuke
No last stand
No death streaks
No flame thrower attachment

Map Design

Map design and size will be following Black Ops not Modern Warfare 3

Sniper Rifles

Improved sniper rifle usage.
No aim assist for any sniper rifle.
Less sway

Customization

No longer just perk 1 chooses the players appearance
Appearance is a combination of all perks and type of Pointstreak being used.

Hardcore

Larger emphasis on hardcore than ever before
No grenade launchers
Only vehicle guided rocket launchers permitted
Respawn timings decreased (for most modes)
1 bullet in the foot will no longer kill a person, a head or chest shot is usually required.
A person will now bleed out if severely injured.

Perk System 2.0

The Perk Pro system has been upgraded
There is now 2 options a perk can advance to.
Both require different challenges to unlock
Once the desired Pro version is unlocked, the player can select that as their "Perk Pro".
Once selected, the only way to choose the other option is by entering prestige mode.
For example Perk slot 1 has the perk called Speed
Speed - Reduces the time taken to aim down the sight. Pro I - Swaps weapons faster. Pro II - Throws equipment faster

Combat Training

Will be returning with vast improvements.
Difficulty is no longer based on how long the bots take to start shooting.
Bots now have an advance AI system
Similar to the behavior seen in the MW3 Spec Ops survival

the original "source" was a post from someone on Treyarch's Facebook page last night after they posted a new
it has not been verified, but that's not surprising as Treyarch probably doesn't want the details out yet.

BTW - Everyone should read this...

When it launched alongside Modern Warfare 3, Elite was buggy, and it's taken a while for Activision to make it work. Indeed, Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing, says: "We had some technological stumbles at launch, and that frustrated some of our fans. The words 'Call of Duty' plus the word 'subscription' equals 'unleash blogger hell."

That's the kind of arrogance that doesn't make me like Activision much. They overhyped and overpromised on Elite and MW3, yet they are offended when we complain. Go figure.
Considering we doubled their revenue for the game you would think they would be a little more grateful.

Why Robert Bowling *MIGHT* have left according to FORBES.COM.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertco...-call-of-duty/

Quote:

What Does Robert Bowling's Departure Mean for Call of Duty?

It came as a bit of a surprise yesterday when Infinity Ward creative strategist Robert Bowling announced he was leaving the company on Twitter. Bowling has become one of the most public faces of the Call of Duty series since much of the original Infinity Ward team left, including founders Jason West and Vince Zampella.

But now the most recognizable person behind the franchise has departed as well. Neither he nor Activision has given a specific reason for the split, and he hasn’t announced any future plans. I’m not sure what sort of terms he and West and Zampella are on, but it would be interesting if he decided to join their newly formed Respawn brand.

Activision only has this to say about Bowling’s departure:

“We sincerely thank Robert for his many years of service. He’s been a trusted and valued member of the Infinity Ward team. We wish him all the best on his decision to pursue future opportunities.”

Perhaps the closest thing to a reason we’ve gotten from Bowling is in a more recent tweet:

“There’s far too many amazing things happening in our industry right now to be content spending life on just 1.”

It’s hard to fault someone for wanting to move on from the Call of Duty franchise after working on it for years. Yes, it might be the most profitable series in existence, but it’s not exactly one that has evolved in any meaningful way in the last few installments. One must wonder what being a “creative strategist” signifies at this stage in the series’ history. A few new killstreaks, a few new maps, a few billion dollars made. It doesn’t exactly seem like the creative challenge of the century.

There may be additional reasons for leaving however, as in a recent interview with Machinima, Bowling spoke plainly about what he believed should be free DLC for players.

“Here is my philosophy on throw back maps: Old school maps, I love maps like that, I wanna see Creek, I wanna see Overgrown, I wanna see Crossfire, I wanna see Highrise.

So my mentality on it is if you are going to do throwback maps, if you are going to do classic maps, keep it outside of the DLC model. Like for DLC, if you are paying for stuff and it’s included in your subscription, it should all be new content. ‘Give me something new I’ve never seen before’ and that’s not something we’ve done in the past before we’ve included in traditional map packs.”

It’s hard to imagine that such a position went over well with Activision, as if they believe people WILL buy something, they’re damn sure going to make them pay for it. I doubt this is the sole reason he left his job, but it does indicate he may have been growing tired of Activision’s corporate culture.

So what does Bowling’s departure mean for Call of Duty, as I ask in my title? In short, probably not all that much. Call of Duty has shown that almost nothing needs to change from installment to installment in order for the now annual release to sell like crazy. That’s not necessarily a criticism, as the game has great mechanics and many find it undeniably fun and addicting to play. But it’s shown that consumers will be content with more of the same, and so Bowling’s departure, despite being a recognizable name and face, will likely not yield any significant change for Infinity Ward and Activision’s next venture. Additionally, Bowling said on Twitter to remember that he had a whole team working with him, he’s only been one piece of the puzzle.

For as long as the games keep selling, there isn’t a reason to change much that might have the potential to upset longtime fans. It may work from a business perspective, but you can hardly blame Bowling and others who may want to move on from the series which may not appear to be much of a challenge any more, and perhaps he wants to be his own boss for a change. We’ll look forward to seeing what he works on next.

Most people are not contributing to "doubling their revenue" though. If anything, we're lessening their revenue because we're paying less upfront for the content than we would had we bought it as it released.

I don't have a problem with Elite now. I paid my $50, I'm getting monthly content, and I'm ending up with probably $10 extra in my pocket at the end of the year. Not a big deal, but it's something. The fact that Elite's stat tracking is subpar sucks, but it's not a deal breaker. If they'd have said "pay $50 up front for JUST the content" I would have bought it. So, to me, everything else they give me is just gravy. And I think that was a lot of people's mindset going into it. Had they charged $50 a year for Elite, and then had additional fees on top of it, I don't think it would have been nearly as successful.

All that being said, Activision is no doubt following in the money grubbing whore footsteps of EA, so they probably will have a true subscription based platform eventually. Pay-to-play, if you will. We'll see how that's received when the time comes.

Play some of the new modes.

OITC = fun, really tense, just like blops
6x3 gun game = fun, kind of a strange progression - pp90m1 rds, type95 RDS, l86 irons, striker, skorpion RDS, five-seven. Repeat three times.
All or nothing = retarded. Start with a usp tac knife, no bullets, and throwing knife. One kill gets you scavenger, pick up a pack and get a clip. Lots of running and random knifing, feels even dumber than infection. Lame lame lame.

Haven't played 18 gun game yet.

Nice, looking forward to messing with these over this rainy weekend.

If anyone here is into photo shoot me a PM. Our Nikon D40 was stolen recently and we've since replaced it with a D5100 and bought some new lenses. I'd love some professional advice as I am trying to learn some photo fundamentals, thx!

Thought about starting a thread but decided to post here as it's likely more pertinent.

Scufgaming.com

I'm thinking about buying one... Anyone who knows my history (and anguish) with Xbox controllers knows I've been looking for a better gamepad for a looong time. The reputation that these pads have is borderline unbelievable-- I guess they should be considering how much they cost. Still, this looks like a winner and solves most of the major gripes I have with the standard Xbox pad, namely: ridiculous concave sticks and sloppy trigger pulls. Also, the paddles go a long way to solving the overall inability to customize control layout in games like COD by moving your most used face buttons to the underside of the controller. Panic knifing, here I come!

I'm thinking about buying one... Anyone who knows my history (and anguish) with Xbox controllers knows I've been looking for a better gamepad for a looong time. I have one, and like it. The trigger stops aren't compatible with a few games, you can remove them if you need to.

Right now I use a mad catz fps pro and it's exclusively for CoD/FPS. The scuf would be used the same.

Do you use the convex right stick? If so how do you like it vs the standard concave? Also, did you opt for the scuf grip/paint? It seems like a bit of a waste to me as it's a $16 option and my hands don't sweat.

Yes I have the convex stick and love it. I also have the grip. I like the feel of the grip, but I think it'd be fine without it.

Haven't played 18 gun game yet.

I played 6x3 as well and I didn't have too hard of a time with the weapon swaps. But the game was way too short. Basically first to 18 kills win. I wish I knew what perks you get if any.

I was all ready to order one, but I don't think it'd be practical to remove the trigger stops for vehicles(like Battlefield, etc.)
