Not saying that either Sony or Microsoft will announce but I'm not using their statements as gospel.

http://www.1up.com/news/no-ps4-announcement-e3

Shooting down a report from last week that suggested the PlayStation 4 (and third Xbox) would be announced at this year's E3, Kaz Hirai has denied Sony plans to make any such announcement in June.

Pointing to Sony's dedication to having a 10-year life cycle with its gaming systems, Hirai -- the current chairman of Sony Computer Entertainment who is rumored to soon be Sony's next president -- said there isn't any hurry to bring out a new console. He echoed what was said by SCE president Andrew House, who recently stated Sony is "just entering into this great period for PS3," adding, "I don't think we're contemplating talking about anything to do with future console iterations at this point."

"Andy is absolutely right in that we are not making any announcements at E3," Hirai said at CES, reports the Wall Street Journal. "I've always said a 10-year life cycle for PS3, and there is no reason to go away from that."

Official, unambiguous denials tend to be pretty reliable. It's the vague half statements that no one should pay any attention to. If they explicitly say no PS4 at this E3, then no PS4.

Nintendo hit a perfect storm and walked away with minimal losses. The poor exchange rates. The 3DS was priced too high and prices were cut. To keep retailers happy they sold it at a loss to them (even though they could have kept it at a profit) The Wii U was in full development and eating into cash reserves (and will continue to do so as production begins and ramps up for launch)

With the 3DS, it should be profitable now. The Wii U should launch at a profit (with a die shrink very early in the console's life planned due to current shortages of 28nm chips) if Nintendo can weather this current storm they should do just fine.

That same perfect storm has left Sony on the verge of death.

Sure I believe the Wii U may be sold as a profit but talking about die shrink is jumping the gun compared to the hurdles Nintendo faces. They are asking for consumers of PS3/360 owners to upgrade to the Wii U. The biggest issue Nintendo will have with those consumers are not going to be the slightly upgraded games available. It will be the controller and online offering. It can't just be online games. They have to have something rivaling Live/PSN to get people to invest in their console and choose their version over the existing offerings. Nintendo set themselves up in a position that they have to contend with the current more than capable systems vs the unknown offerings coming from MS & Sony.

If the rumors of them planning on using either Steam or (more likely) Origin for their online network come true they should have a solid offering for their online platform.

Nintendo's show should be the most interesting to say the least...

I can't wait to see what rumors are true and what are false. I hope it tops the 2004 show but that is very unlikely.

Nobody is announcing any new hardware except for Nintendo. People who had hopes for 2012 are clinging desperately for 2013, but they will be disappointed yet again.

All signs right now point to 2013, at least for Microsoft. Sony is probably going to hold out for 2014. However, if the Wii U is a massive success then you can bet they have plans to get their systems out in 2013 to counter the U.

Microsoft has given absolutely no indications for 2013. Everything on this subject has been pretty much pulled out of thin air.

When they ship NexBox is purely dependent on current 360 sales. And all signs indicate 2013 is way too early.

Well...at least we know they'll be out by 2015.

So whats that leave? PssU?

They'd be ok just calling it Playstation same as Xbox.

just calling the next playstation "Playstation" would suck like what Apple did.

try to google about the new iPad and 2/3 of the articles relate to the original iPad.

at least for search purposes, change the name!

This 1000x this. Try searching for an iTunes issue related to the phone app. 1 billion results come up for the PC application and occasionally an unrelated one for the one you want. Think of the children and puppies being harmed!!!

Where's the best place online to watch the Microsoft conference? I don't have cable TV. I've heard I can watch it on the Xbox itself, but I'd imagine it would be more choppy there.

you can watch it through the dashboard. i think they're using the same xbox live event app that they used for the heavy metal music awards awhile back. or through xbox.com. through spikeTV.

and then tons of blogs going on.

Looks like it might be on their facebook page as well. Trying to figure this out as well since I'll be at work andd cannot watch on any of the gaminng sites. Always like how I can watch live gamecasts and ESPN at work if I actually wanted to, but the gaming sites. NO

SmartGlass looks great, but MS has a long history of getting devices to work together, then promptly forgetting about it. Look at the iOS app released earlier this year that barely worked, then was was never updated again, for a quick example. Look at Zune, now abandonned with the promise that Xbox Music is better.

I honestly saw nothing I would use in the smartglass preview. My smartphone already does most of it better.

Though, the Halo 4 stuff felt like Metroid Prime's scanning.

Yup, one thing I don't understand about MS/Sony.

Why force people to the dashboard/XMB when you can connect to the system via wifi/BT and show it all on a mobile device through an android/WP/iOS app?

Shouldn't be that hard to run dual sign in on a standalone app that would relay the same front end / experience.

I will say that as long in the tooth as I feel this gen is...that was some incredibly impressive stuff for such ancient hardware. So much of it comes from increased production quality even if the tech is only marginally improved.

If this is what were getting at the end of this gen, I can't imagine what the end of next gen 5-7 years from now is going to show us.
