Xbox 360 updates used to be lightning fast, making me believe that they were downloading stuff into the machine while it was standby. Lately they've taken several minutes to complete, downloading something and rebooting a few times.

Does anyone know what happened to MLB.TV? I remember seeing it advertised as "coming soon", but I haven't seen it in a few weeks.

Still waiting on that one. They are advertising it as including spring training games which start this weekend. So hopefully very soon, but I haven't seen anything new on it in a while and I've been looking. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it isn't released until the end of March.

Finally. Been using HBO Go for my Samsung Led 7000 and now it is official that it is coming to the 360 on 1 Apr 2012 to coincide with the release of the second season Game of Thrones.

So the past couple days I've had Crackle & YouTube updates... They seem to look correct now at first glance. Anyone have any word on the Netflix update? We've stopped using Netflix alltogether on the xbox because of this & flipped over to the Bluray Player's app. It's old-school, but it works and looks perfect.

Netflix/MS better fix this before my renewal-- the Netflix app was 90% of my Gold subscription & you better believe the other 10% isn't worth that much money.

Do you need to access the app in order to be told it has been updated?

Xbox YOUTUBE update;

It's been a while since I've used my Xbox 360. When I turned it on tonight, there was an update and I had my fingers crossed it would fix the black level problem within the Youtube App.

After the update (and after my Xbox restarted a couple times...due to the update) I went to the Youtube App.

Selecting Youtube did not alert me of any update, however I did check out a few Movie Trailers in HD...this is a GOOD test since I can look at the black bars at the top and bottom and see if they are truly black or not...on my calibrated Pioneer Kuro, they are.

I did not see true black in a lot of the blacks. There were only a couple times where the blacks and color seemed fine, however most of the time the blacks were higher in level than I felt it should have been when compared to the real blacks on the Kuro.

I have no way of telling if the difference in Black levels is from the way the videos were transferred to Youtube...or if in fact, nothing had been done to fix the black (and color) issues.

Movies must be OAR, sports and movies must also have 5.1 audio, No EE or NO SALE!

Note...

If the black bars are part of the video, then it's really super easy to see if the black level is correct or not.

MSNBC, Today, SyFy and Zune all had updates last night when I checked. Black levels looked good on them. I wonder why Vudu and Netflix haven't updated and those are pay services. You would think the pay services would update before the free ones since they are making money off them afterall.

Do those updates happen when you access those services individually? Or did the updates happen when you first logged into Xbox Live?

That means at least for me, the Youtube app has not updated (at least for me.) When I clicked on Youtube, it loaded without any update.

I just tried starting YouTube, Zune and VUDU and all required that I apply updates. EDIT: I've since tried all of the players I've downloaded and Crackle, ESPN, SyFy, Today and I think CinemaNow all required updates (ESPN just started and downloaded an update within itself). Only TMZ, Netflix and Epix did not.

Oh yea ESPN did update within itself too.
I didn't have an update for Youtube and don't remember lately having one in the past either. Didn't try CinemaNow or Epix.

Finally, an update for Youtube! It didn't work for me yesterday, however today when I clicked on Youtube, there was a notice it needed an update...so I let the update download.

Wow!! Blacks look black and colors are more saturated. I first checked out some HD movie trailers and the color fidelity and rich blacks made watching these videos much more enjoyable!

Now we have to see if Microsoft can fix the resolution problem of the 1080 video being limited to only 720.

I'm not sure it's completely fixed. Game wise.. Mass Effect 3 is EXTREMELY dark and on mine I have to peg the brightness to max in the game settings. Not good.

I think that you're the first person to report having a problem in a game--it's all been problems with video apps to this point. You should check in the Mass Effect 3 thread to see whether others are experiencing the same thing.

Does anyone here know how to test if 1080 is still playing at 720?

I downloaded some AVS 709 test pattern in MP4 files (here; I'm specifically referring to the clips in the "MP4-2c\\Misc Patterns\\D - Resolution" directory. All of the patterns should appear as a smooth set of vertical or horizontal lines (the single pixel patterns like a smooth blank gray field). At lower than 1080p resolution you'll see vertical or horizontal banding or checkerboards.

I just copied the clips onto a USB flash drive and played them from there.

You can't play these files on YouTube--you'd use the Xbox's built-in video player. Either place them on a USB drive and plug it in or set up a server for playing files on your PC using these instructions.

The Youtube update seems to correct a couple of issues I was having with it. They move Subscriptions up to the front of the MyYoutube page. Also the loading of the video selection seems a lot better.
