I'm so confused....

My kid has played with a local profile on the XBOX for years now, but we felt he was now old enough (and has enough friends that play) that we got him a Live subscription for his birthday. So I had an existing Windows Live ID I wanted to use. I went through the hassle of setting it up for him and everything, which apparently I had to do on a pc/web browser for the whole "parental consent" thing due to his age. So I got it all set up, put in the Live Code from the card we bought for the 12 month subscription and then another code for 1600 points for him.

So now I seem to have a Live Account set up for him, but I can't figure out how to associate the local profile on the XBOX with the Live Account. When I try to "join XBOX Live" from his profile, it tells me the email address is already associated with a different Live profile.

Did I mess up something by setting it up on a PC rather than the XBOX? The XBOX was giving me issues because of his age and having to set up a parental account separately, so I just did it on the PC since I can't stand having to type in thing on the XBOX "keyboard."

I can't seem to find any settings anywhere to associate the local profile with a Live ID, and I doubt he wants to lose his gamerscore. So what should I do now? I'm beginning to think I should have just lied about his age and bypassed the whole parental account thing. It's a huge pain in the ass.

EDIT: Did some more online reading, and I guess I apparently did screw up by not doing it from the XBOX so now I have two accounts and no way to merge them frown.gif Is that right? Looks like I'll have to recover the Live gamertag and he'll lose his gamerpoints. He'll be thrilled.

Correct, you would of had to convert the original profile from a silver to a gold through the xbox.

One of the greatest posts I have read

Thanks. I'd appreciate it. Even if I could redo it but have the membership and MS points transferred to it, I'd be happy.

I downloaded an xbox app for my iphone and it asked for my live ID username and password. I think I'm in trouble because I can NOT for the life of me remember my password and the email that I used to setup the account in the first place is defunct. I must have set this thing up 5 years ago and just simply moved it to my slim over the years. I tried the xbox website and they asked me a security question which again I can NOT remember. Weird thing is they are asking me for subjects of emails to friends. Are they talking about some sorta emails throught xbox live? Or are they somehow able to know the subjects of emails that I've sent in the past to friends? This seems rather odd.
Anyway how screwed am I? And whats this number that I can call to fix it?
Lessons learned. Write down your passwords and keep them in a fireproof safe.

Help! I just got off the phone with Xbox tech support. I was suprised to get actual humans. But it seems that if I can't remember my password and my email has long since changed then I'm screwed blued and tattoed.
I can still start my xbox and it auto logs me in and I can still play all the games I've bought but what should I do now? Do I need to make a new windows live id and gamertag and move everything over to it? Will I lose all my gamerscore?
Why can't someone hit me in the head with a frying pan and make me remember my password?

Reactivate the original email and start from there.
