New Details about Twitch on Xbox One

We know the ability to instantly broadcast gameplay is something the gaming community is excited about, and we are too. We are working to ensure the initial Twitch on Xbox One broadcasting experience meets the expectations of the Twitch community, so while this feature won’t be available right away, we’ll let you know as soon as it is ready. Our goal is to deliver it during the first part of 2014.

Not a major deal breaker but what did Sony do that MS couldn't to make release is the only question I have...

Major Nelson posted this, which recommends using Skydrive to share the captured clips.

Upload Studio Walkthrough (Click to show)

You can capture and edit clips and get them onto your PC via Skydrive, you just can't upload them to Twitch from the console yet. (I assume that you can upload it to Twitch from your PC).

Probably just different priorities for what they wanted ready for launch. Both seem to be adding things post launch.

Same thing with developers as well it seems for those making launch. AC: Black Flag was just patched today for the PS4 to up it to 1080p native and adding AA.

In software development having an absolute deadline sucks. Sometimes your estimates have to be optimistic to make it work on paper and if you don't hit it you have to punt, cause it's gonna ship regardless.

I am not being an awfulizer here, but this is yet more negative press for Microsoft. YES, I KNOW IT'S NOT A DEAL BREAKER, but still, it's another feature that Sony offers, that Microsoft said they'd offer, and alas they can't do it until 2014. Makes me think it was an afterthought and they need to work hard to do it.

For many people Twitch is not an issue, but for others, like myself, who runs a smaller but rather succesful website in Canada, this was a great way to do some gameplay streaming without any hassles. It's a feature I was looking foward too. Here in Canada we are also getting half the apps that US customers get, and we don't have support for the Xbox Guide yet as there is absolutely NO information regarding what, if any, cable companies and their boxes are being supported. Ugh!!!!

As has been stated in this thread, it seems that both Microsoft and Sony really did rush their consoles to the market. I wonder what would have happened if both of them waited until Feb, Mar or April of 2014. It could have let the current generation run it's course over the holiday seaon, and allowed both consoles to continue to develop better UI and App features that aren't delayed or made existing ones even better.

Oh well, picking up my pre-order on Friday and gonna enjoy some Xbox gaming in my media room for sure.

Not sure if this has been discussed, but can smartglass mirror your iphone or idevice display onto the XB1, similar to airplay and appletv?

Has there been any talk of it doing this?

There are features that Sony says they'll have that the Xbox One has that didn't make it by PS4 launch either, weren't there (notably game suspend/resume)? Stuff happens. You can still capture and create clips and upload them to your Skydrive (and from there to Twitch and/or YouTube), its just not automatic.

Smartglass cannot.

It's rumored that in an eventual update, maybe Miracast receiving might come to the Xbox One, since Miracast sending was a big feature added to Windows 8.1. At launch, that probably won't be available. Plus, Miracast doesn't help you with an iOS device. Some Android phones support Miracast, and some Windows 8.1 / RT 8.1 tablets do, but not iOS (nor does Windows Phone, for that matter).

Considering that the XB1 requires an update to work out of the box, I have no doubt that 100% functionality and apps are going to be available at some future point.

I agree that both companies have rushed their respective systems to get them out. I am pretty sure that MS is more rushed than Sony. Sony was never planning on as many bells and whistles as the XB1. MS prolly thought they had more time to get it all implemented.wink.gif Sony of course threw a wrench into those works.

As long as the thing plays games, I will be OK. Gives me timeto slowly decide which functionality I will want to use.biggrin.gif

But the XBOne is supposed to have suspend/resume play at launch, while the PS4 doesn't. Suspend/Resume play is far more important than a twitch feed.

Definitely. Eventually they'll both have a lot of the same things and some exclusive things. Plenty of extra fluff to keep us busy.

There's the question... My gear's already calibrated, so it will be interesting to see if the patterns they have on the box match up on an already calibrated display. Regardless, I'm glad they're at least TRYING to have a standardized setup for everyone so that the games are done to a known standard.

I wonder if you download the game on day one if you can get the little day one perks that come with the day one hard copy versions.

Not that it's a dealkiller either way.

I wonder if they will even have the games available for day 1 download.

Quote:
Logitech is working with Microsoft so that its Harmony line of universal remote controls will support the Xbox One when it launches this Friday, Nov. 22, a representative for Logitech told Polygon.

"We are working directly with the Xbox team at MSFT to have Harmony support on Day 1 of Xbox One launch," the representative said.

Logitech's Harmony devices operate a wide range of electronics including cable boxes, DVRs, receivers, televisions and video game consoles. Harmony devices can control the Xbox 360, which has an infrared (IR) sensor. Other Harmony devices can control the PlayStation 3, Wii and Wii U through Bluetooth pairing.

Sony's next-gen console, the PlayStation 4, shipped last week without an IR sensor that could be used to support universal remotes. The PS4 does not currently support the Bluetooth remotes that worked with its predecessor, either.

Apparently Android and iOS Xbox One Smartglass out now too.

Something that's pretty interesting that I saw in the Windows and Windows Phone versions is that you can actually search for games and view random people's game clips for each game. Personally, I expected that to be on-console only.

True...this could be a disaster in disguise if they choose a different standard. But the X1 plays video too, they wouldn't do something that silly....I hope.

I was planning on picking mine up friday late morning but I stopped by my local best buy today and they are expecting everything to go fast. I am utilizing the free money for 24 months so I want to make sure I get everything I want...so I am now going to go thursday night to make sure this happens.

They have an interesting deal where if you spend $880 on this package deal...you get 20% off games for 2 years. I am contemplating this...but I have to at least buy 6 games for the discount package to cover itself.

Anyone else thinking of doing this epic package from BB?
