You mean the Xbox button (there is no back button on the Xbox One controller) and yes I tried and nothing happens

Yea that's what I meant, for some reason I thought it said back when I originally read it. I have yet to try mine. I have the update, but haven't powered on a controller.

I wonder if it has to do with the fact that I'm not using the original batteries on the controller? I bought the energizer charging station which comes with its own batteries which you have to use instead of the MS ones.....

Nevermind, left console off for a couple of hours, just turned it back on and now the battery indicator is working. Love the fact that I can see my storage and bluray lipsync issue seems resolved. Very happy!biggrin.gif

I did not see the battery level indicator after the update either. So, I turned the console completely off and then back on. After everything loaded, I turned on the controller and then tapped the Xbox box button....and there she was.

After the update you can now go to the Followers list and see when some added you to their list. This might help you figure out that one missing follower.

So they separate apps and games but Netflix and Amazon are listed as games same as blu-ray.  Who thinks of this stuff, its like they put no thought into it.

Little off topic, but are the times messages were posted on these forums messed up for anyone else? For example, the post above mine said it was made 6 hours ago but that's definitely not right.

Go in and edit your profile/settings. You must be using an incorrect time zone

I removed the apps and reinstalled them and they went under apps, Now COD is alone in the games category lol.  Wonder why mine were showing in games though, that was weird.

What the heck no update yet here in Chicago.

I really do not like the way they are doing updates with the one. It should be as simple as I turn it on, I get update - done. Having it depend on what power mode you keep it set on is dumb.

Thanks! I did it the hard way before the update and went through a few contacts that looked new and to see if had them as a friend. Just when I thought I had them all someone new popped up.smile.gif

Did you check your settings? I Know I have the option checked for Standby mode to receive the update then.

Well the idea is that for most people it'll update without them even noticing if it's set to instant-on. I know it's a pain sometimes for those of us who want it immediately as soon as they put it out, but I can understand the reasoning.

Seems to me that 360 was always listening for and downloading updates when it was in off state. Less so in recent years but certainly at first you'd start the machine and it would tell you that there was an update and if you took it it would install it immediately without a download. Lately it seems as though they do wait for you to request the upgrade before downloading; maybe they got complaints about standby power consumption; Xbox One uses a remarkable amount of power in that hot standby state, more than my TiVo Roamio does when recording from all four tuners. To its credit, it draws an outstandingly minuscule amount of power in power-saving standby.

Pretty sure that the 360 just did a check when the box was turned on/connected to Live, which is the same thing that will happen on the One in a few days when the update becomes mandatory. I"m almost positive it didn't have auto-check and especially not auto-download like the One has when the update is available.

This page explains the two update states better in case anyone is curious: http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/system/system-update-overview

So.. I toss in LOTR last night into the XB1 and the movie looks like a box on the TV. The left and right side of the TV have black bars.. I yank the DVD and put it into my BD player, comes up and looks fine. Did I miss a setting somewhere which caused the XB1 to look so horrible?

You didn't specify whether LOTR was a pure DVD or a Blu-Ray Version. So I will assume it is a DVD version. Your XB1 is probably displaying it in "Native" setting. While your Blu-Ray player is set to play everything at widescreen. I don't have an XB1. But if it works like my XB 360, you can adjust the settings to play any DVD at Widescreen.

Forgive me is this has been asked/answered. So with my Xbox One set to automatically download updates and such. When I turned it on there was no notice or anything. How does one tell if the Xbox is updated, do I have to keep a manual track of the system version and compare to hand writing notes? Is there anywhere that says last updated, etc. etc.

This brings up the second question, same for games, how do I know I actually got a game update automatically except by manually tracking every game's version?

Any thoughts/tips other then turning off auto udpates?
aaronwt's Avatar aaronwt 02:08 PM 02-16-2014
I think the recent update is supposed to help with keeping track of those things.

For me with the XBOne update, it had turned the power supply light Orange and I had to manually start it from that state. For me normally the power supply light is white so I can turn it on by voice.

When I turned mine on a green progress bar popped up, with no text or markings of any kind, just a growing green line in the middle of the screen. When it finished it booted the machine and I had the update.
