Ya, still a little pricey but it'll come down quick when there's competition. Crazy thing is, it still looks like the drive is limited by the PCI-E x4 interface. Too bad there's no thunderbolt port on the Xbox, it's prob got a ton of PCIE lanes doing nothing.

They're announcing a bunch of new apps that all should be arriving before this holiday season.

Like HBO Go... which is being announced for the second time in this release (it was originally supposed to be part of the 'first wave'). Still a little annoyed about that one. mad.gif

A little disappointed too that Showtime Anytime is announced... but as 360 only.

Still though, there's some good stuff. Comedy Central, Epix, HBO Go, IHeartRadio, NBA, NHL, TuneIn, Twitter, Vine, amongst many others.

The Twitter integration in particular looks pretty smart. I've wanted to use Twitter during certain sporting events and just snapped the mobile site in IE, but that experience was subpar.

Ya, that's a solid amount of apps. Looks on par with roku now.

Does the 360 do 1080p in anything? IIRC it only did 1080p for Xbox video in the past, but maybe that's changed? Now that the gold requirement is gone I can finally use it as a living room streamer.

Another tidbit is that Phil Spencer just posted a tweet that:
Quote:
June #XboxOne software dev kit gives devs access to more GPU bandwidth. More performance, new tools and flexibility to make games better
https://twitter.com/XboxP3/status/474220849612849153

I don't expect drastic changes, but the more tweaks that they can make to improve things for devs, the better.

The twitter integration in the new One Guide looks pretty sweet.

I'm starting to have my doubts that we'll ever get 3D blu-ray support or a native DLNA streaming app. All these other apps are nice, but there is still basic functionality missing. Maybe they're just hoping we forget about it...

I don't see this any indication of that, since they're not responsible for developing these apps.

My main point is that none of their recent announcements deal with basic functionality that we've been asking for since launch.

At least they finally added external storage, which was on the list. They had mentioned for awhile they were working on it, however. I haven't heard a peep about 3D blu-ray.

Hopefully the Plex app that's being developed can help some with the home media server side although I've been fine with Skifta pushing to the One myself.

Besides the twitter integration they did not make any announcements pertaining to an OS update today. I know it big deal for you, but 3D Blu-Ray support has to be a real low priority for them. I think with this last update they have knocked off almost all of their promised features except for 3D support so I would assume be getting higher up the list of things to do.

I dunno, seems to me like they knock a few things off that list every month.

I wonder, does a company have to pay more to license 3d bluray playback vs just 2D playback? Maybe that's part of the holdup.

The big question is will/can games that have already been released be patched. Like upping the res from 792p to 855p or something, or maybe eliminating screen tearing, stuff like that or some kind of benefit.

Because the changes were made to the SDK. No one is going to go back to previous games and make major changes to the code for fear of breaking things.

I'm guessing most of it comes from an option to disable kinect video processing and steal some GPU time back, hence the part about "flexibility to make games better."

VUDU, because in that case it was kind of restraint of trade, inasmuch as VUDU sells 1080p video as a separate option from 720p, charging a premium for it. The restriction is entirely arbitrary--the system video player used to play files and DLNA streams at 1080p. AFAIK, they've never explained or apologized for it.

Is anyone else getting the "Installation Stopped", issue for Games with Gold? I have had it since attempting to DL Halo, and MAX, last night. I had seen The support info last night, stating that it was broken, and they were working on it. Today, there was a patch that supposedly fixed it, but I am still getting the error, no matter what I do.
I have tried uninstalling, re-installing, hard re-set, etc...

On a side note:
I had read today, that new Hulu Plus subscribers will receive 3 free months trial. I may do this, as we are attempting to cut the cord.

I downloaded both of the Games with Gold titles today without issue, although I haven't played them yet. Kudos to Xbox for keeping up with Sony in this regard, it's a welcome treat even if I probably won't like the games all that much. I'm not a power user by any stretch of the imagination, so it didn't really feel like I was getting a lot of value out of the service outside of being able to play a game online with friends from time to time.

You need the system wide update that was released today before those games will play. I ran into the same problem last night, but it was working fine this morning after the update.
