I know, crazy right? I did call it over in the PS4 thread though....at the rate the x1 is being updated, I figured it had to beat Sony to 3D blu ray. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Something tells me this is gonna light a fire under Sony's ass though. They'll prob have it too within a month or so.

But MS still has not fixed the rear surround audio issue that affects ALL apps and the HDMI input. I still can't believe they have not fixed it. Fortunately there isn't an issue from the games or BD playback. But why they can't map the surround channels properly from the apps and the HDMI input just makes no sense.

Does Sony issue monthly updates with fixes and new features for PS4? (I haven't bought one because there hasn't been an exclusive that I wanted to play. I was thinking that I might buy one for The Last of Us Remastered).

Not really, but they continue to just push out stability updates. It reminds me of last gen already, with Sony being slow to deliver on promises from their reveals. It's pretty awesome to see MS add things. I put in a request for the battery notification that is being added, so that's cool.

Especially based on a few comments about it from some console owners. But widespread adoption of HDTV in the last generation made it vitally important with new consoles. And I am shocked they missed the obvious. The success of Wii...that looked great on HDTV to average users last gen should have been a major hint.

My fearless prediction is this. The first major console maker that admits this glaring omission. And serves it up...free of charge or just embedded within their new console specs. Will accelerate sales so fast away from the pack...it will be a rout! Sales on these devices have stalled for a lot of reasons (XB1 in USA...PS4 in Japan...Nintendo all over). But I bet BC is very high up the list on all of them for secondary and late adopters. I know it is el numero dos reason I don't have any of them right now. But I would buy any of them in a heartbeat if it offered BC.
Indeed. I would have pre-ordered a PS4 before launch if it had BC with PS1 and PS2 games. If they would have added PS3 games, it would be even better. I would actually consider buying an Xbone if it was BC with the 360 as well. But because they omitted that, I will likely never get an XB1 as the vast majority of games are multiplatform and I'm not really into Xbox exclusives.

I continue to message and tweet Major Nelson and Phil Spencer about it. Hopefully it gets addressed in August. I found is affects channel mapping when using dlna as well with a 5.1 audio source.

Or just as likely the method to transfer over is not a well documented process, and the developer assumed it was not possible. Sometimes ignorance of situation is the more likely than malice.

End of 2013 in this case is a long time ago. There have been almost half a dozen updates that we are aware of since that time. So what may have been something that wasn't doable then could have change without it being communicated back to them. Again I'll say never chalk something automatically to malice that could easily explained by ignorance.

Base games has always been free. It's the addon tables that get you down the road. I should know I own just about all of them from the 360. Though they are a hell of a lot of fun. Nothing more irritating then having the High Score on one then getting on the next day only to get back on find a few people on here beat my score...

That's kind of crazy. Does it not support 7.1 properly at all, or just in stuff that's specifically 5.1, it only comes out of the rear and skips the sides?

Game audio and Blu-ray Disc audio is mapped correctly. But 5.1 audio from the apps or HDMI input has the issue.

Is that a problem only with 7.1 setups or does the HDMI audio mapping issue effect 5.1 setup's also? Now that 3D upgrade has been announced I am planning to go with Xbox one & connect the cable box into its HDMI input. My setup in the family room is only 5.1. Hopefully MS will enable 4k service also on the console soon.
