Same here and the 6 hour window will ultimately save me money.

There are MANY games sitting on my shelve, great games, that I started and simply didn't get into or couldn't commit to playing for a variety of reasons. In retrospect, I should have traded them in and never bought them in the first place. Skyrim, Mass Effect, GTA, just to name a few. No doubt, top notch, great games but a complete time suck.

The whole concept of getting access to the complete game (not just a carved out demo) and being able to try before you buy is perfect for me.

Do you have the 1409 update?

Yes. I got it last week or this past weekend. Not sure exactly but I didn't try connecting the flash drive until I had that version.

I used a 32GB USB3.0 drive just to test, and it worked for me.

Did your drive already have some media files on it?

try out a wmv or mov file. Then connect it to your rear USB3 port. Mine wouldn't recognize my USB drive with the side port. Also my USB thumb drive is super old, so it doesn't have to be USB3 or in any way shape newer tech.

So for those that have used the ESPN app, does it actually provide ESPN content or does it only do the same thing that the watchESPN website (ESPN3) does?

Assuming I have a cable sub and can log-in and authenticate, would this be a good reasonable safe conclusion that I could watch a game scheduled for ESPN1 on it?

Oh I know. I still tested it though just to make sure.

But yeah, no problems with MP4 which is fully supported. Worked fine on my 32GB drive as I was saying before.

ESPN app is the same and does the same thing in all devices.

I tried it out tonight and it worked. I guess it had not loaded the media player. I saw a message and in it there was a link to download the app. Then I plugged the 1TB drive in and it worked. And I tried the 128GB flash drive and it also worked. I tried some high resolution FLAC, DSD, and DXD files. It would only play the DXD files. I also tried some mp4 and MKV content with 5.1 audio.(MKV did not work). Of course the media playback also has the surround audio borked by coming out of the rear surrounds.

I was messing around with Amazon video and was switching between my XBOne and PS4. What a huge difference it made with 5.1 content. Even though the PS4 was sending out a 7.1 signal with two dead channels(5.1 in a 7.1 wrapper), the surround audio came out of the proper surround channels. It made a gigantic difference in the soundfield when compared to the XBOne with the audio erroneously coming out of the rear surrounds. (Whether 5.1 or 7.1 output is selected with a 7.1 system on the XBOne it has the issue).

SO that really sealed it for me. If I use a game console for any serious streaming content it will need to be from the PS4 from now on. The XBOne just pales in comparison with the borked surround audio. If I had a stand alone player that sent surround audio out the way the XBOne does, I would have returned it right away. The XBOne is a joke with surround audio when playing back 5.1 content from the apps or HDMI input on a 7.1 system. Again the game audio and BD audio is fine.

I still can't believe that they can get the game and BD audio right, but have no clue about the apps and HDMI input. It's like the MS engineers are deaf. Although I guess I don't want to offend a deaf person. SInce a deaf person would probably have a better chance of getting the audio output correct than the MS people working on it.

If you somehow get a hold of Microsoft to tell them about this issue please tell them to stop putting out Windows updates that cause Windows Journal to stop working correctly while you are at it.

So has anyone checked to see if you can play music through the media player app while playing a game? This is really the only way it is useful to me.

I didn't try that. I only tried playing a few music files and they all stopped playing after 30 seconds for some reason. A message popped up each time saying that "It took a long time to gather all your media for playback. Please try a different folder". This was with MP3 music files and with the DXD music files. From both a 1TB platter drive and a 128GB USB 3.0 drive.

The music would have the cover art and track info but for some reason that message pops up on both of my XBOnes and stops playback of the music. It didn't have any issue playing back the MP4 videos I tried.

I guess I should try a wma music file. I need to find one. I used to have all my music in the wma format but converted everything to MP3 a couple of years ago so I could store it in the Amazon Cloud.
