I hope they execute it well and things work together and not against each other. I think as long as they implement everything well it will be fantastic, of course that easier said then done. I'm still excited as I have had windiws 8.1 on my laptop for about a year now and I'm used to it, didn't like it much at first TBH. It seems windows 10 will be a combination of the best of 7 and 8.1, or at least thats what I'm hoping. I don't think it will be enough to sway me to try out Windows phone but only time will tell.

I bought one of those lumia 635s for $50, it's surprisingly good. Way better than any android phone I've used that cost a lot more. Very responsive, lots of neat features....I could use it every day if not for all the missing apps. If they can close that gap I'm in.

Take that how you will.

Cool, but I still don't see multiplayer PvP shooters being cross-platform.

How would that even work? They're both PC's, but wouldn't that be a huge downgrade(performance-wise) for the PC crowd?

Interesting, thanks for the impressions. I may jump on sooner rather then later but the lack of apps is keeping me away as you said. I know Nokia makes a good product, my father and I had plenty of Nokia phones years ago and they always seemed to be quality pieces. Now that the phone/hardware side of Nokia is a part of Microsoft I'm not so sure and being used to Apple and their huge selection of apps, 70% of them useless or not lol, has me a bit spoiled as far as variety goes. I'll wait at least until Windows 10 is fully baked across the Xbox One, PC and their phones and see how well they all play together before seriously considering making the leap.

Obviously I don't expect an update. I wouldn't be surprised if it's available as-is though, just like in 8. A WinRT replacement seems great, but I don't think there's a chance in hell of it happening.

I had an iPhone And just got a Lumina 635 as well for $50 and so far I'm really liking it. It's very responsive and I like that it is dynamic in giving me news updates, friend updates and just overall nice and customizable on the home screen. I'm not a big app guy, so that was not a deal breaker for me. I'm hoping it will integrate in interesting ways with my Xbox once Windows 10 hits.

You can already hack the old WMC into 10, but I doubt that'll apply to a locked down Xbox.

They wouldn't have to build a monolothic replacement though, most of the WMC functionality is already present in the video and music apps, all they'd have to build is the TV support. DVR is too obvious a thing for the Xbox one so maybe they've just been waiting for win 10 on Xbox and then they can release a universal app.

Full video is coming later, but pretty much solidifies the xbox/windows 10 merge - any dev can now build cross platform apps and games. A bunch of new indie and cross play games announced. All xbox accessories going forward will also be compatible with PC, later this year there will be a wireless adapter for the controller. (Finally!)

From the sounds of it the xbox one is now a full fledged windows 10 PC, minus the desktop and all that legacy stuff.
Normally, I would say bd2003 was little ambitious in the whole PC=Xbox thing, but I would not be surprised at E3 2016 or 17 Microsoft released a Xbox One hardware spec that would allow any PC manufacture to make their own "Xbox" PC. It would allow Microsoft to refresh their gaming console in five years without having to invest the millions to do so.

They kind of already have though, haven't they? Assuming they follow through on everything they said today and do some common sense things like have the same UI on windows/Xbox when connected to a TV, they're 90% of the way there. All that remains is disc support and the Xbox gold requirement on Xbox.

Good to hear, thanks. TBH I'm not a huge app guy either but I need all the core apps I use to be present. Things like banking apps, a few specific game titles, most of the major retailers, insurance apps, FB, Google+ etc. The most important thing would have to be support for a few browsers like Google Chrome, Firefox etc. I know it will have Internet Explorer obviously but I do 80%-90% of my reading and research through browsers. I use a few different ones to as I usually have many tabs open all the time for various car mags, forums, search engines etc. so the OS needs to be able to handle that fluidly as well.

I am pretty sure we will get a clarification of that statement at some point.

Finally a reason for me to buy an Xbox One and a new version of Windows. I passed on Win 8 completely. I'll still wait to see exactly how Xbox fully integrates with Windows 10. But this sounds very exciting to me. If I can play living room console or Win10PC games on Xbox One. Play Xbox games on my Win 10 HTPC/Oculus Rift/Hololens. I'm good to go. All they would need to do IMO is license a quality third party to create a very HQ Xbox 360 emulator and they would be Gold. I believe this decision is much more about the future that MS finally got yanked, yelling and screaming into on VR. Because VR will threaten to explode the PC and Mobile gaming industries in very unpredictable ways. MS certainly couldn't just sit idly on the sidelines and watch others capture that market and erode Windows too. Their biggest gains in the future will be competing in emerging technology spaces with the most stable and versatile Software platform. They were literally locking themselves out of their own potential growth markets with the disconnect between Windows OS and XBOS. It wouldn't surprise me if Xbox One just becomes Windows version of SteamBox. Because it sure looks like MS has shut down that potential.

I still think they have a lot of work to do before they get to that point. I am thinking of a more turn key solution for PC to launch into a Xbox dashboard. I think that is still a year or more away from becoming reality.
