... New controller supports Bluetooth and "Xbox Wireless". Damnit, they're going to end up getting me to buy another Elite controller, aren't they?

(As an explanation, the Bluetooth means it'd be way more convenient for the times I connect to my Surface for light gaming while traveling.)

Scorpio confirmed! Holiday 2017, apparently will actually push 4k in games.

Interesting that it's a UHD BDP. I've only used the disc drive in my Xbone once for a short while but I might use that (though I'd prefer high bit rate 4K downloads).

They announced at the end of the briefing that all games will play on Xbox One, Xbox One S and Scorpio.

So essentially will the S also output and scale games and the dash to 4k as well? Or will it strictly output 4k just for video? My 4k set is pretty bad for input lag with its scaling.

Yes, the S is essentially for 4K video. They did mention that Gears of War 4 will support HDR, but that was the only game that announce support for that.

Does seem odd that they announced both "new" consoles together....when one sorta overrides the other......why would anyone bother with an S. A year of 'waiting' is nothing. My current XB1 sits in a cabinet in a closet so how big it is or how it looks I could care less about.

Cause the S is going to be affordable, and Scorpio is going to be expensive. I think they'll stop selling the original Xbox one hardware, but the S isn't going anywhere anytime soon. The S is for people that don't own an Xbox now anyway.

The S is now the most affordable UHD Blu-Ray player on the market, $100 less than the Samsung, plus all of the Xbox functionality.

Even if you don't care about using it as an Xbox, it's the best deal for playing UHD Blu-Rays, and I imagine it will have better streaming support and more firmware updates than the Sammy standalone.

The S isn't going to have a UHD drive as far as I'm aware. It's the same hardware as the regular XBO in a smaller package. The Scorpio will be the one with the UHD drive

Outside of the new visual design, the Xbox One S also includes a few other improvements compared to its predecessor. Most notably, there’s 4K Ultra HD video support (including 4K Ultra HD Bluray) and HDR capabilities for both gaming and video. Meanwhile, one of the console’s USB ports has been moved to the front for easy access, along with the controller pairing button, and there’s a new built-in IR blaster. One thing has been removed, however: the Xbox One S doesn’t include a dedicated Kinect sensor port. If you want to hook up a Kinect for voice controls you’ll need a separate USB adaptor. (Microsoft says that there will be a program to offer the adaptors for free to existing Xbox One owners who decide to upgrade.)

The Official Xbox One thread...

Man, I'm almost tempted to buy one. Did they ever manage to speed up the app launching, or is it still like 30 seconds to launch Netflix?

The situation reminds me of the PS3 at launch; it was purchased by lots of non-gamers due to being the least expensive BDP available (at $500 ).

I wish Microsoft would incorporate swap-able internal HDD, or allow the XBOX-OS to be run on external HDD's.

It would definitely speed up the sluggish UI.

Ok so here's my question then. During the Xbox One S reveal, it said "Starting at $299" and it also said "With up to 2tb of storage"

That says to me that the base $299 model will most likely NOT have a UHD drive and will probably only have a 500gb hard drive. Now I could be totally wrong, and I hope I am as $299 with a 2tb drive and UHD would be a fantastic price, but I just don't see it.

I think that I will buy one for the 4K capabilities. A year and a few months longer for Scorpio is a bit of a wait. Hate the white and am indifferent to the size reduction. My Xbone sits in a black cabinet and is invisible, which is exactly what I want. My ivory colored TiVo Bolt sticks out like a sore thumb.

That's about what I figured, pleasantly surprised and impressed to see all 3 will have UHD. I may actually upgrade to one while waiting for the Scorpio

On this page on news.xbox.com it says :

Quote:
Xbox One S. Debuting a sleek new design and “robot white” color, the new Xbox One S is the smallest and most compact Xbox ever. The 40 percent smaller console has an internal power supply and supports 4K Ultra HD for Blu-ray movies and content streamed from partners like Netflix and Amazon Video. High Dynamic Range (HDR) support for video and gaming delivers richer, more luminous colors in games like Gears of War 4.

Nothing implies that the UHD BDP is exclusive to the more expensive models.

One thing I'm super stoked for is the Xbox Play Anywhere push. Buy digital on Xbox, get PC version free. After Quantum break I was hoping they were going to do that and super happy to see they are. Already planning on snagging Gears of War 4, Forza Horizon 3, Dead Rising 4, Halo Wars 2, State of Decay 2, and probably Sea of Thieves.

+1

Cross-play will be enabled for these titles as well. Even though it won't come out until next year, Scalebound is probably the most exciting.

They can try. I know even high end PCs have trouble with some games running good frame rates at 4k with multiple GPUs. Gonna have to see.

Problem is the current Xbox One doesn't support Atmos/DTS:X audio because it cannot bitstream the lossless audio from Blu-Ray. Unless they change this with the S, there will be no Atmos from your UHD discs.

mine never took that long. I run all the games and apps I can from an external drive that is twice as fast as the internal drive.

Have they mentioned the speeds of the drives in the One S? Will they be hybrid drives?
