??? So people complain when they have to wait weeks for an update. And now when they get too many updates?? I'd rather see more updates than fewer updates. The quicker an issue gets fixed the better.

there is an update every time I boot the xb1 for the bd player app... so I'm thinking it's a glitch as its likely the same update being applied again and again and the xb1 can't detect that it's already been installed

Ok. I've had several updates to the BD player but not one every time I turn it on. But I also use standby with my system. It only turns off/reboots when it installs an OS update.

I use energy saving mode because it's in my bedroom and it makes too much noise in instant on mode... I have the old xb1 design, not S if that matters

I use Instant On with my Day One Xbone and it doesn't make any sound that I can hear when in stand-by. I just knelt next to it and couldn't hear anything.

I can definitely hear a humming/buzzing sound. My hearing is very sensitive though and my room has a very low noise floor, especially at night.

Could it be your power brick? Mine started rattling real loud last year and had to buy a new one from MS. Actual xbox and new power brick makes no noise in standby.

Mine is annoying even from 10ft away... what should I do? I have an extended warranty via Best Buy which should still be in effect but I don't want to go through hassle with little to no result. How much is a new power brick and where can I buy one for the best price?

I've had bad experiences with xbox customer service when my Xbox 360 rechargeable battery packs were defective and they kept sending me refurbished replacements that had little to no capacity left... and I had bought the original ones brand new and didn't test them throughly during the return period at BB.

The power supply brick has a fan, that's what stays running in quick start mode. The fan in the Xbox itself turns off.

The fan inside will turn on depending on what the XBOne is doing in standby.

So are noisy power bricks defective? Or simply an earlier revision that was later modified to be silent?

A Google search indicates many have noisy power bricks but not all.

I always assumed it was a matter of perspective. Mine is not really bothersome but I can hear it when there's no other audio playing (quiet scenes in movies, between songs or quiet music). I have a pretty quiet/isolated home theater though.

I've had a similar experience and until reading posts from those with no sound during active standby, I thought it was normal. My PS4 is completely silent in rest mode however.

A new system update is out today. The full list of changes is listed in the link It does include a way to turn of the chime if that is bothering you.

Startup Chime
  • You can now modify, turn on, or turn off the startup chime! You’ll find three new options in Settings > Power & startup > Power mode & startup.
    • On (startup chime plays anytime the console is powered on).
    • Only with power button or voice (startup chime plays when console is powered on via the power button or voice; does not play when powered on with the controller).
    • Off (startup chime never plays).

WOW!! I recently got back from Gamestop after trading in a 2013 XBOne($150 toward an XBOne S instead ofthe normal $100 trade in value), two extra controllers, a 360, two extra controllers, and an extra hard drive. And a few other items like transfer cable, head set etc. They gave me around $285 for everything.

So my out of pocket cost(with taxes) for the 500GB XBOne S was only $15.62. That was a sweet deal!!

If you have ever been interested in trying out World of Tanks (free to play) they have a hammer challenge going on this week that let's you earn a Tier 7 heavy tank. If you were to buy that tank out right it would be roughly 45 dollars. If your interested in platooning up I could help you get it. GT : Omi43221

I'm a bit out of my element, so I could be wrong about this, but I think its possible that the reason that the Xbox One and Xbox One S don't support bitstreaming Dolby TrueHD, DTS HD-MA, Dolby Atmos, and DTS:X audio to AVRs is that Dolby and DTS have not yet released on-the-fly encoders for these formats. I could be wrong, and if I am, please let me know. Why do these devices need on-the-fly encoders for bitstreaming to work? Let's remember that unlike standalone Blu-ray players, game consoles are expected to combine audio from multiple sources. The only way for an Xbox One or Xbox One S to, for example, combine the audio from a currently-playing Blu-ray disc with the audio from a snapped app, or the alert letting you know that your background download from the store has finished, is to first decode the Blu-ray disc's audio, combine it with audio from those other sources, and then re-encode everything in your output format of choice and bitstream it to the AVR. For this to work, the Xbox One and Xbox One S have to have on-the-fly encoders for TrueHD, HD-MA, Atmos, and/or DTS:X. Do those exist? I'm not aware of it. If they don't exist, then that would explain why the Xbox One and Xbox One S cannot bitstream audio in these formats.

I'm curious to know whether the PS3 and PS4 have this same problem.

There ARE on-the-fly encoders for pre-TrueHD Dolby Digital and pre-HD-MA DTS. That explains why the Xbox One and Xbox One S can bitstream these formats over both HDMI and optical.

Now on to a different issue. Like others in this forum, I have noticed that some 2-channel audio sources play only through the front-left and front-right speakers. I have also noticed that other 2-channel audio sources, such as live TV from a non-HD TV station picked up by my Hauppage Xbox One TV tuner, are matrixed and their audio can be heard from the center speaker and from the surround speakers. I could be wrong, but I assume that it is up to developers to design their apps appropriately, so that audio that should not be matrixed, such as music, gets sent only to the front-left and front-right speakers, while audio that should be matrixed, such as TV shows, makes use of all channels possible. Apps that SHOULD use matrixed audio but don't are simply poorly designed, and that's not Microsoft's fault, even though it is annoying.

I'm curious to know whether the PS3 and PS4 have this same problem.
