Yeah, I checked that-nothing there. I can't for the life of me figure out why the sudden increase in disconnects.

Bitstream audio pass-thru, with Atmos support is coming with the Creators Update for Windows 10 and Xbox. Nice.

The Creators Update should be out in the Spring (at least for PC).

That is awesome. But what will the AVS forum posters have to complain about after that? I kid, I kid.

More good news. XBOX ONE S sales are on fire in the US and Europe. Gotta give Phil Spencer credit, they are just making all the right moves. I'm sure the Ps Pro will dent their enthusiasm this fall but all in all still very positive for Xbox and its future.

I figured that they'd add direct bitstreaming sooner rather than later, given that they were being embarrassingly berated by the A/V press over the issue. There were probably people who read that press thinking about buying an Xbone S as a UHD BDP who didn't need Atmos/DTS:X capability who decided that it wasn't sufficiently future-proof. I actually thought that it might be a little sooner than "early 2017" but at least it has a vague estimated release date. I suspect that people in the preview might get access to it a month or two early (they'll probably make us re-opt in for the "Creator's Update" ).

I just noticed that The Orange Box has been made backward compatible (I saw it in my Ready To Install list). Cool .

Nothing on my regular Xbox. I haven't checked my Preview Program one yet.

What happened to the Preview announcement emails? The new preview forum seems really jacked up.

I went to the Xbox One website for firmware updates, and the one I got last night wasn't even listed.

Just got an Xbox One S yesterday as it will be about $50 after selling my Xbox One Day One edition. I don't have a 4K display, so I understand there's not too much difference other than the form figure, no more power brick, slightly increased computing power, and new controller.

My question is, is there anything else the One S does or I should know that's an upgrade over the original? I use the Kinect often for controlling my TV channels, mute, rewind etc., so I did put in for the free adapter to get it working for the Xbox One S.

Also, anyone whose aware of the crazy 7.1 Audio issues that plagued the Xbox One from the beginning (see here) - are these resolved on the One S?

I thought those were resolved before the XBOne S was released?

I've been using the ARC with my secondary setup with a UHD Tv with the XBOne S. So I've been in no rush to get my primary setup(2k) back up. So I'm unable to test it.

As far as I know the issue was resolved for Bluray Player app only and still exists for TV (if you use pass through) and all other apps like Netflix. I will test with the Xbox One S tonight and see what I find.

Only thing I know is that they connect faster to the Xbox following the initial update they did long back. Would also be curious as to what updates past that did.

With the old ones you need to connect the controller to the console with the proper USB cable to update. With the newer controller it's done wirelessly. And a prompt comes up on screen saying there is an update with the newer controllers. With the older controllers I always had to manually check for an update.

Ok, thanks. My controller came with my xbox one I bought about a year ago. Not sure if that qualifies as new or old. But I've never seen a prompt for a controller update, so maybe that means it must be old.

And when you do go to update BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO UNPLUG YOUR CONTROLLER!

I have no idea how it happened, but while mine was updating my controller fell off the shelf it was on, yanking the USB cord out and knocking the batteries out.

It refused to turn back on. At first I assumed the controller broke when it fell. But then I did some reading online and found that if you disconnect during the update that it bricks the controller.

To fix it, you have to plug it in, hard reboot the Xbox, and then eventually its supposed to update itself. I proceeded to update my second controller and when I was finished it asked me if I had another to update. I said I did and plugged my non-functioning one in, and after two or three tries of the console saying nothing was plugged in it recognized it and powered it back on.

Actually I believe that it was the version which introduced a 3.5mm audio jack (making the stereo adapter obsolete) which launched in June of last year.

Yes I agree that issue has been fixed - where it used to output 5.1 to center, fronts, and rear surrounds (instead of sides as is normal). However, when set to 7.1 uncopressed, the Xbox still takes up all 7 channels regardless of source in Netflix Tv and any other app using a source with less than 7 discrete channels playing - therefore limiting your ability to matrix the other channels.

So I guess Achievement rarity was from the preview program? I've been seeing that since around the time I started playing FOrza Horizon 3. I had thought it was rolled out to everyone.

EDIT: And I guess the same for Clubs.

Anybody else's console freeze during updates overnight? This is the second time I've had my console locked after a OS update is made available. I have to unplug it and try again; it then downloads the OS update and goes on its merry way.

Just FYI for those that might not have noticed... Oblivion was added to the backward compatibility list yesterday! I loaded it up last night, and assuming it's not full of glitches, I'm pretty happy to have this one available again on XB1. I really hope they keep up the push to make older titles available, although I will admit I caved and bought the remastered Skyrim and Bioshock series even though I already had them...

I played a couple hours, albeit on PS4. The game is strange.

According to Digital Foundry, the Xbox One version has a smoother, more consistent framerate over the PS4 version. The downside to the XB1 version is a lower rendering resolution, and some screen tearing.

Based on the PS4 version, the game's HDR implementation has nice detail and pop.
