You can control the Tivo from the Kinect. But only if you're in Live TV and then only if you want to change the channel on THAT tuner. The Kinect has no support for switching the Tivo's tuners nor any other features. Treat it like a dumb cable box and the Kinect does fine.

What concerned me a bit more, however, was that I could discern areas in the picture where the signal going through the Xbox was showing artifacts. There was a bit more blockiness to some programming, a sign that the Xbox transcoder wasn't quite getting things right. Given this is all plugged into a new Panasonic plasma I didn't want to introduce anything into the mix that would prevent me from making a fair assessment of the display's handling. So I ran component lines direct from the Tivo to the TV and left the HDMI running through it. Not because I'll use it though. More to have it there for potential demos and such.

At some point, like if/when the Xbox supports HDMI-CEC, then I might go back to using it. But then only for the updates and notification features. I could see it being VERY useful if the Xbox was intelligent enough to interact with my AVR (a Denon X3000) and be able to switch inputs. Right now it can't. Hell, it barely even controls the AVR's volume properly (which, in fairness, has more to do with the Denon's IR pickup than just the Xbox).

I can't really ever see the Xbox being sufficiently capable of controlling the Tivo to ever make it a viable alternative to the Tivo's own controls (RF remote or android/ios apps).

I still use my TiVo remote but when I play recorded content I can still use my voice with Kinect to play, pause, FF, Rew, Skip Forward, and Skip Backward. I rarely use my TiVos with live content. So once I start playing my recorded shows I just put the remote down and I can just control the TiVos by voice with Kinect.

Thanks.

Day one purchase for me. Rock climbing and tennis is all I need. I'm in.

Last gen Kinect play was great when it worked. I'm expecting much more this time around and this appears to be worth the wait.

Cool. I wish ping pong and boxing were included as well with this release but there must always be plans in the works for KSR2. Maybe we will get lucky and new sports will be available through DLC vs. waiting a year or more for the next edition. Either way, finally a great use of Kinect for the masses who don't see the added cost for the voice commands and ease of use as justification enough.

Tennis, bowling and shooting look good; I really liked the darts game in the last 360 K Sports. An instant buy for me as well. Just 15 days out cool.gifsmile.gif.

I know back in October it was stated that KSR would have controller support but has anyone found anything recent to confirm?

I have looked around a bit, unable to find anything recent, and the fact that it is not in the demo has me a little worried.

Why..?

My autistic son does not like motion control but he loves the wave runner / jet ski / boat style games (Wave Race, Hydro Thunder). wink.gif

Thanks,
Jason

eek.gifeek.gif Sweet!! I'm really looking forward to this game. Espcially because my GF will play it so we can play some games together like we did with kinect on the 360 and with the Wii.

I think I remember it being about control menu wise but not for gameplay.

That's likely how it's implemented.

Thanks for the input.

Alright more information is coming out as the game gets closer to release.

Here's the latest trailer from Harmonix:

Here's what's known about the song list so far.

Tracks previously announced for Fantasia: Music Evolved:

  • AVICII – "Levels"
  • Bruno Mars – "Locked Out Of Heaven"
  • Fun. – "Some Nights"
  • Kimbra – "Settle Down"
  • Queen – "Bohemian Rhapsody"
  • Antonio Vivaldi - "Four Seasons: Winter: 1st Movement"
  • Modest Mussorgsky - "Night on Bald Mountain"

Newly announced tracks that will appear in the game are:
  • David Bowie - "Ziggy Stardust"
  • Antonin Dvorak - "Symphony No. 9 from the New World"
  • Lorde – "Royals"
  • Nicki Minaj - "Super Bass"
  • White Stripes - "Seven Nation Army"

The Escapist has a GREAT hands-on video: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/escapist-news-now/8943-Fantasia-Music-Evolved-Multiplayer-Preview-GDC-2014

Here's a good recent preview of the game from Joystiq:

Game Informer's preview: http://www.gameinformer.com/games/fantasia_music_evolved/b/xboxone/archive/2014/03/24/inside-the-hollow-with-disney-fantasia.aspx

Shacknews has a nice preview as well: http://www.shacknews.com/article/83671/fantasia-music-evolved-preview-dynamic-duets

excerpts:

Performing the actual songs appears to have vastly improved over the last time I tried Fantasia at last year's Comic-Con. Songs now feature more direct instrument choice, allowing players to veer more towards one style of a song or create an eclectic mix of various genres. Backgrounds will also be affected by song choice. Composition spells will also pop up during songs, allowing players to play around with the Kinect controls to create song loops, new melodies, or additional beats. These sequences can also open the doors to hidden remixes that will help play the song in a new way.

Fantasia's development appears to be going in a positive direction. The new features and the two-player mode were both nice to see, but what left me feeling encouraged about the game was that I ran into minimal issues with the Kinect peripheral itself. While the sensor had a lot of trouble reading my movements back at last year's Comic-Con, my recent bout with Fantasia at GDC is an improvement in almost every way. I did experience a few moments where the sensor didn't read a wave of my hand, but for the most part, I had no trouble with my wacky flailing arm waving.

There's still no release date for Fantasia: Music Evolved, but Harmonix and Disney Interactive hope to have it ready for Xbox One and Xbox 360 later this year.

This game looks really, really unappealing, just a very poor concept. As a Rock Band freak (at least a couple of thousand dollars sunk in equipment and DLC) I hope that the survival of Harmonix doesn't depend upon it's success.

Agreed. Looks awful. I'm all for new and innovative experiences, but I couldn't tell what the hell was going on. You could tell the girl in the second video couldn't figure it out either.

Well, unlike you guys, I think Fantasia actually looks quite intriguing. I'm all about playing conductor, and the on-screen prompts look pretty easy to follow. I'm mostly concerned about the number of songs, which seems pretty lackluster thus far. I'm sure Harmonix will release DLC like mad for it... but it better have a good opening group of songs.

As an aside, HMX has announced Chroma, a "Musical FPS" for PC only. It also looks unpromising. I fear for HMX.

Yeah, I read a hands on preview of that a while back and they didn't seem to think it was going to turn out well.

While I am still waiting on an extender I am starting to look into mounting options. MS says 2-6 feet off the ground. The top of my 70" Elite LED is about 6.5 feet above the floor. Is this too high? What happens at this height? I guess for now I am more concerned with voice commands so that should be fine but I'm guessing the tracking may be messed up (I sit about 14.5 feet from the tv). I would rather not put it under the TV since we have a baby on the way and an 18month old who will try and swing from it when I'm not looking.

Mine is about 6 1/2 feet off the ground. Seems to work better for me higher up than it does close to the ground. Shouldn't be a problem.
